How to Open a Stuck or Damaged Mercedes Hood Latch With No Tools

preview_player
Показать описание
Procedure for opening the hood latch of most mid-2000's Mercedes hood latch if the cable or latch release mechanism is damaged. This particular video is of a W211 (E-Class) but the principle and latch mechanism is the same for most similar vehicles. Tools required are limited to having a way to get under the vehicle and possibly a long flat blade screwdriver. Time to complete is under ten minutes not including lifting the vehicle.

Hope it helps! Mercedes would no doubt quote $500 for a job that you can do yourself with the spare tire kit, a block of wood, and some hand soap. Get to it and save the money!

Oh my gosh, you just saved my life ... I replaced the hood release switch in the car and to do that I disconnected the cable under the hood where one cable attaches to 2 cables (to give me cable room under the dash). It started to rain real hard, so I slowly dropped the hood, ensuring not to latch it. 2 hours later, the rain stops, and I go to hook the cable to the 2 cables under the hood. The rain and wind must have closed the hood. Oh how happy I was about that ... but, using this video, I'm going to go back out and unlatch it, and fix the cable before the rain starts again ... joy!
