It is the world’s only STOVL technology for supersonic jets. Since 1969 RR have delivered unrivalled STOVL expertise. The system is a descendant of the Pegasus engine, comprised of the Rolls‑Royce LiftFan®, Driveshaft, 3 Bearing Swivel Module (3BSM) and Roll Posts. Rolls‑Royce has been the industry leader in short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) technology for 60 years. The RR LiftSystem is capable of delivering 20,000lbf cold thrust ooohhh yeah. RAF Marham is the home of the F-35 Lightning a 5th Generation, multi-role, stealth fighter. Marham operates the B model F-35, which is a STOVL (Short Take Off Vertical Landing) aircraft. The RAF omit the 'II' because this is RAFs third Lightning!

The Lightning’s short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) capability allows it to operate from the new ‘Queen Elizabeth’-class aircraft carriers and the vessels of allied nations, as well as short airstrips. The F-35B lands vertically like a helicopter and can take off in very short distances, allowing it to operate from austere, short-field bases and a range of air-capable ships.
