The funny part is that they didn't want to record this song. The label wanted them to do a "typical" love song, they hated the idea. So they wrote the dumbest lyrics they could think of, "gee, I think you're swell", to try and get the label to reject it. Instead, it became one of their biggest hits.

Paul Revere And The Raiders are a criminally overlooked band from the 60s. Him Or Me is a song that still sounds fresh today.

Amber and Jay, "I think you are swell!!!!" This is one of the 60's catchiest tunes along with a bangin' chorus.

True fact they wrote this song as a joke to get out of their contract thinking it would be hated but got fooled it was a big hit they outsmarted themselves!!

How can you not love the line: "Your looks intoxicate me, even though your folks hate me"?... Priceless! 😊

"Elenore" was an accidental hit for the group. Howard Kaylan dashed off the sappy lyrics and tune intending to make fun of "Happy Together, " a big hit for them.

Another great group from the 60's. The Turtles are an American rock band formed in 1965. "Happy Together" is their biggest hit in 1967. But they had a lot of great songs such as "It Ain't Me Babe", "Let Me Be", "You Baby", "Grim Reaper Of Love", "Can I Get To Know You Better", "She'd Rather Be With Me", "You Know What I Mean", "She's My Girl", "You Showed Me" etc.

One of the best Turtles’s songs ever is “You Know She’d Rather Be With Me” I would highly recommend it!

For more good timey 60's vibes check out more of the Lovin' Spoonful "Do You Believe in Magic" "Daydream" "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind" "Younger Girl" "Nashville Cats" "Six O' Clock" "Rain On the Roof" "She's Still a Mystery to Me" "Darling Be Home Soon". All classics and one of the many great pop/rock bands of the 60's.

This one really brought back memories from my childhood... I first started to listen to the turtles singing "Happy Together" in 1966 when I was 10 years old... When this song came out I almost lost my mind because I loved it so much... The live version is much better... I requested this one about 2 years ago ... Thank you so much for reacting to this one... This was my favorite song when I was 10 years old... Great reaction, guys...As I always tell you, "Keep Being Awesome"... See you on the next one...

Wonderful Reaction! More Turtles songs you would enjoy are "You Showed Me", "She'd Rather Be With Me" and "She's My Girl". Please at some point get back to The Rascals and "It's A Beautiful Morning" and "Good Lovin'". Others have suggested The Association many times and yes you will enjoy them as well. Try "Cherish", "Never My Love", "Along Comes Mary" and "Windy" by them. For other cool 60's songs "Incense & Peppermints" by The Strawberry Alarm Clock, "1-2-3" by Len Barry and "See You In September" by The Happenings. Oh there are so many!

Great choice. Eleanore was actually meant as a joke. When Happy Together became such a big hit, the record company wanted them to do a similar sounding song. The Turtles didn't want, so they did this song thinking it would be too sappy to be released. Not only was it released, it also became a big hit. I love Eleanore, and to my knowledge, it's the only rock song to include the words et cetera.

This song was actually a happy accident. The studio kept pressuring them to do another song like Happy Together. So, they, trying to be sarcastic wrote a song that was so sappy and absurd (they thought) that the studio would say "uh nevermind" With lyrics like "Gee I think you're swell" and " you're my pride and joy et cetera" instead it became a big hit. You should also listen to "Some Girls"
