Police in Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos say several people have died after a high-rise building collapsed.

The building with more than 20 storeys had been under construction in the upscale Ikoyi area. A rescue operation is underway to free dozens more who are feared trapped under rubble. Workers on the site say many of their colleagues were inside when the building came down.

Nigeria and my country Kenya are siblings. People are in such a mad rush to make money they'll build a skyscraper out of mud and cheap cement and bribe the officials to make it happen

"People do things they way they want" because the country is too corrupt. The system need a complete cleasen and start all over again, from the president down to local government civil servant, airport staff, seaports, banks, police are nothing but a den of criminals and corruption. Integrity, justice, doing the right things in life is no long a part of the thinking or system but how to get rich quickly at all cost. I am a Nigeria, only the truth can deliver my beloved motherland Nigeria. Thank you.

Why do you think they collapse? No regulations. More sand than cement. Corruption in Nigeria kill endlessly. Contractors give costs required and often compromise these just to keep part of the money paid for the projects. I am sorry for the lives lost but what can be done to end the pandemic of corruption in that country?

Tragic :( Those of us fortunate enough to live in liberal democracies should thank legislators for the building codes that reduce such horrors.

I remember seeing a documentary about the collapse of a hight atrium walkway within an US skyscraper and the survivor’s stories were horrifying.. screams everywhere, people trapped with their members crushed, being very hard to breathe because of the dust, one person was lying on their belly with the legs folded the wrong way coming over their head, these kinds of things are insane

🙏🏿My heart goes out to the families of the workers, having worked in construction I feel this story a little more.
‼What a shame! The architect or the contractor are at fault.‼
🤔 The death toll would be much greater if the building made it to completion and occupation.😞

"Lagos, dubbed by one expert who spoke to the BBC as " the building-collapse capital of Nigeria", has seen at least 90 buildings falling down in the last 12 years, leaving more than 350 people dead, according to the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria."

The exterior of the Nigerian building looks like a beautiful woman.
But, the skeleton is as weak as an old grandmother.
Because they don't understand the strength and concrete composition mix of cement.

Can you imagine being the person who's job it is to sell units in the remaining construction?
