Putting movies in sub folders is the BEST thing I ever did. First had one big movie folder with all my movie files (13, 000) and it caused Plex to browse DOG slow. Once I went back (I know crazy but I used an Automator script) and put each movie in a sub folder and it made both my Plex server and JellyFin servers run SOOO much better when browsing movies and clicking them to see what the movie is about etc.

Why does plex server drop/ignores "A" and "The" from the title? E.g. Movie title 'A Common Man' is listed under index 'C' (Common Man) instead of 'A' (A Common Man)? Is this correctable?

Great introduction, but did not go nearly deep enough in depth... I'm having problems with the extra features. I have two folders:

/mnt/share/Videos/A/Alien (1986) Aliens (Special Edition)/Featurettes
/mnt/share/Videos/H/Hunger Games (2013) Catching Fire/Featurettes

For the Hunger Games one, the extra feature is properly recognized as such and appears on Catching Fire. For the Aliens, the extra feature appears as if it is a separate movie titled Featurettes.

I've been struggling trying to figure out why this sometimes works sometimes doesn't.

Similarly, EVERY single one of my movies has a posters files in the same folder. In a few cases plex grabs that poster and uses is. However, in most cases plex will download a completely different poster...

In regards to multiple part files, such as the Lord of the Rings extended editions I find the syntax CD1, CD2 seem to work. Which is also yaml compatible... Now days it is trivial to combine multiple movie files, but it is not so trivial to combine the srt files and still have the subtitles timed correctly...

For 3-D movies, I encourage the use of MVC. Then so long as you use direct play/direct stream your hardware can figure out which is 3-D and which isn't.

something good for the arsenal is FileBot.. awesome way to rename without totally having to rename. If file name has most of what it needs. filebot will rename it for you.

Love you videos, they have helped me a lot learning plex. I am curious though, what do you do when you have a movie that is on multiple DVDs. For instance I have The Hobbit Box Set (extended version), and each movie comes on 2 DVDs, a part on and two. I am assuming I cannot combine them, so I would use the pt1 & pt2 options?

I have many mini series, such as Shogun and Stephen King, where I do not want a 14 hour single file (Kingdom Hospital 2004 or 11.22.63 (2016)). I want them as separate episodes in my movie folder, not my TV show folder. I have used all the different naming conventions mentioned and yet my two or three part films still appear as one file in a separate folder for each part. I want them in folders such as tv shows do but not having to put them in my TV Show folder.

My thanks for your continuing effort in assisting to us in understand and use PLEX. Having watched / downloaded your video on Movies naming convention, I find myself looking for a video regarding TV shows as well but have not found one. Did you create one? FURTHER, I have found the music component of PLEX to be excellent-- especially when one has connected an old 100 watt per channel analog amplifier to the TV and some bodacious speakers! As I plunder thru those naming conventions, I find that to be the most challenging!

I have tried Plex, 2 or 3 times and it could never find my mp4 files. At the time, I was using Kodi and the naming convention is pretty much the same. So I gave up and went back to Serviio (which I used to replace Kodi). I would like very much to use Plex, but have no idea why it won't accept my movie files (or TV shows for that matter). It has been a couple of years since I last tried, and my movie collection has grown quiet a bit in that time. Serviio works fine, it gets all the fan art and such, but doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Plex. Also, I do have some mkv files, but the subtitles are not separate... how do you get them separated? The subtitles are just embedded text tracks inside the mkv container. Most of my clients will allow me to select which, if any, subtitle tracks to display. I don't have any 4k rips, but hope to have a TV upgrade soon. How good is the AI up-scaling (you mentioned in another video) feature of the Nvidia Shield 4k Pro?

As a fan of Plex, I really like watching your videos on things that i already know, keep it up man. Just a tip for the more unexperienced, you can also specify the language used in the subtitle by adding ".eng" (or whatever the language code is for your subtitle) at the end of the filename. As an example, "Back to the Future (1985).eng.idx".

I wonder if you, Byte My Bits, have made a video about adding local extras? Let's find out.

what about different language versions? Let's say I riped my Star Wars BD with original audio track, polish dubbing (for my kids to watch) and polish subtitles (for my wife, that doesn't speak english). Is it possible to have an option to select audio and subtitles when starting to watch movies? What if have this in separate files - Original SW and SW with polish dubbing? can this be managed somehow??
