That's cool, but i wish they implemented it like the different versions feature. Instead of having the same movie showing in the grid 3-4 times, they could all be merged into 1 and you'd have the option to select Editions and Versions.

A hint to find those multiple editions quickly when in the Movies - Library tab choose Duplicates as a filter. It will then list the movies that has different versions. See get info on the movie to find the exact location in your library.

I mean I was already doing this anyway manually by having proper file names and then going into manually update the movie poster per file. An excellent example of this would be the Lord of the rings trilogy, as my wife prefers a theatrical addition as opposed to the extended. It's really great that they're adding in this functionality for sure though!

I would like to see this feature look similar to the extras feature or maybe like have a tab that says editions where you can choose which one instead of having both listed on the main screen as two separate items

Can you do editions of TV shows? For example, if I have an airing of a TV show that has been re-released several times, and there have been different audio tracks and cuts / edits made to each set of episodes (and edits even made to airing order and episode numbering), I want to separate them but still keep them as part of the same TV show...

Right now I have to make custom TV shows and descriptions for each episode to get it working as I expect.

I finally got this to work. You need to make sure you have upgraded your library. After I updated my library (and my Plex server to the latest version) this feature worked. I had been holding off on updating my library because of having close to 300 movies and I was afraid it would change posters and metadata on me (which it did).

At the beginning of the year, I downloaded images of my films in their blu ray cases and 4K cases, respectively. Now, I use those images instead of posters, which generally makes it easier to distinguish DVDs, blu rays, and 4Ks. Of course, Criterion films are a bit trickier.

Finally! We've been asking for that feature for YEARS now. Here's hoping Emby follows suit as well. I made the move from Plex to Emby a few years back after Plex started focusing all of their time and development efforts on their AVOD and FAST Channel type initiatives and moving away from the personal media library core.

I've been dying for this since I started using it, cause I just name my files with the editions and tell people which 1080p; version is the correct one.
Huge win for those with every Blade Runner of LotR editions.

They have had this feature for years. All they really added was the label below the title. I was excited when I started your video because I figured they merged it into one page with a clean new interface. Maybe someday it will happen... Along with merging movies from multiple servers so I don't have to switch between mine and my friends to find something.

Time to adjust my filenames. Years ago when I setup my library, I had read in the Plex naming conventions pages to add a dash & then an edition after the year (i.e., Movie (YYYY) - Superbit), now I have to change everything to this format (i.e., Movie (YYYY) {edition-Superbit}).

Glad to finally have a working implementation though!

I actually still do like the old way of doing it. It would be good if you click the movie and then it asks you which one you would like to play the 4k one or 1080p one and the owner gets to change the name of them, for example, rather than having two of them separate. That's just my view though.

Hilarious considering I recently went through the whole process of adding those exact versions and had to split them, then check the file path, rename the “uncut” version and change the poster image.
Now obviously you still have to do a bit of a workaround with how you name the files… except in this case you do it on the back end with a simple renaming process and Plex takes care of the rest. Pretty neat.

Thank you for this! My first thought is how do these brackets work when also pointing to a different online database? for example, if you want your show(s) to be indexed using imdb, you add {imdb-ID#} to the filename. So now we add {edition- ED_Name}.
My initial questions are:
Does it support both imdb & edition at the time time?
Is the syntax {imdb-ID#} {edition- ED_Name} or {imdb-ID# [perhaps a comma, etc here to separate] edition- ED_Name}, etc...?
Are these flags order important, meaning the {imdb-ID#} must be in a particular location and the {edition- ED_Name} only at the very end?

would be nice if you could add 2 or more editions to the file name. right now i can only add 2 editions using a comma in between them.

It's about time they released this feature. I've seen lots of requests for it. It would be cool if they did something similar for series. I have some extended cuts.
