Some of the singing friends (particularly the ones still learning - like me) have this problem - they can sing mostly correctly in a given range, but when switching higher (or dropping low from previously higher part) they can't find the correct tones.
I've also done it several times when we've been pushing hard (usually my highest notes).
But something that might be rather specific to me - I stopped singing for about 9 months (and for the first 3~4 months I didn't even listen to any music), and I started singing again a little over a month ago, and ... strangely the top of my range has risen with 1-2 semi-tones (depending on the day of course), which was very welcome change indeed, but I also started to notice that my muscle memory was making me push harder than necessary and I started to jump a little over the correct pitch - basically with the same effort with which I previously was singing F4 (with voice), now I reach F4# or sometimes even pushing G4 (though that usually takes noticeably more effort, and was previously impossible).
Anyway the effect is that I start to sound pitchy, not much I guess but when there's bigger difference between notes it's much more noticeable ... I guess I need some kind of tuning :/
And mostly because of that I started to think more of how I'll hit/attack given note ... and I have no idea how I'm normally doing it - I can "premeditate" usually the position and push that I need if I need to attack a tone harder but that isn't that specific for the given tone, of course the faster and harder I attack the better chance there is to get stable tone, but usually the first few such tones I have to slide them a little bit - ie correct them on the go - and usually a phrase or two in the first song I'm usually mostly tuned, because I've basically tested my voice already.
But I have no idea how to prepare for it from the very start of the song (sometimes MMM-ing or VVV-ing away from the mic before a song, or before I even gen on the stage helps, but sometimes it's not enough for a given song start, or ... I simply forget to do it :/)

This was tremendously helpful. Thank you. I’ve noticed when I listen back to a recording of a song I’m working on, the low to high is fine and fairly accurate, but the high to low …. Oh, dear. It just sounds like it splats and goes to mush and I have been struggling to know how to fix that. You’ve given me physical cues to pay attention to and to train for. 😊❤

Hello. I am mostly deaf in my right ear and have pretty much permanent tinnitus in my left ear. I really struggle to sing on pitch or to even grasp the concept. However, perhaps strangely, I score high on the Wii Pitch Perfect game in which I don't sing but I guess the pitches instead. Any thoughts?

So I was realizing I was looking for a secret to be lazy...😢ok..this makes sense. I find the hardest transitions happen in my passagio. I get confused and lose resonance. Yes. I surf. All feel like subconscious popping up..after you stabilize your board
