If I bought it, I'd negotiate that you replace the 4th tyre so they all match. 😅

£4k for that is fair. Clean, straight, full history, s line, Quattro, fresh test and new tyres. Still looks modern. Hard to argue with that really.

"Quite substantial" is the new "seriously overspent"

Can’t believe 3 and not 4 tyres on a 4WD! Not what I thought you would do

I have a friend with a soft top 59 plate. She loves it. She's 78 and still rags it around. Cheap to run if you keep away from main stealers.

That was one of your best matt. That TT was brilliant for 2grand, talking to mechanics they tell me peak vw audi was between 2003 2013, all modern cars are to be avoided because theyre too complicated. That engine was built to last forever if properly maintained .

I have a mk2 TTS with 120k odd miles, great car and can be a bit of a surprise to people with “faster” and more expensive cars. I think it’s a design classic that stands up against newer designs.

The MK11 TT’s were super reliable and cheap to run. They are also an ageless design.

I had intermittent loss of power on the sound system on my Mk2 roadster - ignition switch was replaced to fix it, and trust me, if its the same fault, it is VERY intermittent and won't have gone away. Got my Mk2 in 2013 and still absolutely love it and it doesn't seem to age. Mine's the full fat normally aspirated 3.2 VR6 (these were all Quattro) with the S-Tronic dual clutch transmission and the noise it makes is epic. Even the roadster is surprisingly practical boot wise.

Mk2s do have some common faults though. Leather seats often sag, window regulator cables rust and jam (most will have been replaced by now - its possible to get stainless steel cable kits), steering racks can wear badly and go rattly. On the Quattros, the Haldex pump often fails eventually because the filter doesn't usually get changed as part of servicing (you don't get a warning light for this fault - so it's worth code-scanning any Quattro car as it doesn't just affect the TT). On all VW group cars of this era, the alarm sounder internal batteries leak anywhere from 10 years on and wreck the sounder PCB - which again will be picked up with a code scan.

On the Mk2 roadster, a bit of galvanic corrosion is common under the rubber seal just aft of the door apertures but can generally be kept at bay, and the roof flap servos need taking out and stripping down for a clean periodically as grease can work its way from the servo gears onto a carbon potentiometer inside (if the resulting error code isn't dealt with, it can eventually lead to the roof stopping working).

The 3.2 will hit 60 in under 6 seconds and you can get a good one for under £5K now as they don't attract the premium of the TTS or TTRS, and you tend to get stuffed a bit on road tax. This TDI looks similarly good value, and worth £4K of anyones money.

I admire you for putting all that effort in (and cost) before even selling the car. Most traders round my way (Norfolk) wouldn't service or MOT before a deal is done.

I really like it when it looks like someone’s really taken care of their car. That’s a lovely colour and probably has loads of life left in it with that level of care
