John Deere 47 Blower Thoughts

I have a 47 inch single stage snow ‘thrower’, on my 425. Some people think that the throwers are inferior to the blowers. I beg to differ. Mine throws snow plenty far enough to do the job and doesn’t clog up in slush. I did add rubber’ 1/4 “ conveyer belt’, to the paddles, so that there is almost zero clearance to the back of the chute, which helps to prevent clogs and slightly increases throwing distance. I love the thrower and wouldn’t trade for a blower. I live in northern Ontario, Canada so I have had plenty of experience dealing with snow. I also designed and built a front end loader that works fantastic on the 425, better, in IMHO than anything currently on the market, but that’s another story. Love the John Deere, and your channel.

I used to have a 44" berco on a '78 316 that was repowered with a 16hp B&S vanguard. It sounded like an airplane the impeller spun so fast. It would blow snow 60 feet but it took so much of the available power to do it that if it started to get loaded down even a little the rpm would drop 30% and it would do a more typical 30 feet but at a crawl. Now I have a 47 on a 739 that will go through 12" of snow at a slow walk but it only throws it 25 feet. Overall the 739 will move lots more snow than the 316, just not as far.

I have seen many other videos on this model blower. I don’t like the way it puts the pile out in front of the blower, while working. That snow should be going out the chute. Some thing wrong with the design of the impeller and or bucket. There are snow blowers that don’t have the pile of snow in the front, if you look at videos, randomly picking what you want to watch. Snow should not be lost out the empty side, if the blower is working right. But, I will say it sure does the job, if you had no other type of blower. Tractor mounted or walk behind. Don’t forget to look at randomly picked walk behind snow blowers. Just my opinion. You have yours.

That really wasn't enough snow going into the blower to make it work well. I have a single stage 49 blower on a 318 and a 64" LAND Pride 2 stage blower on the back of a 30hp Kubota at another property, and I find they both work better when you get a good amount of snow being fed into them. With a small amount of light snow you need to go faster so it feeds in enough to fill up more of the impeller and Auger. Just my 2 cents! 👍

Looks like the inside of the chute and maybe the blower housing are a little rusty. Smoothing them down with a wire wheel and shooting some paint then spraying some silicone would improve performance of this blower. It does make a difference if the blower housing has more snow going through it, almost like it needs volume to blow it farther. I see someone said Deere sells a speed up kit? What is that a different pulley or impeller? I like your videos of your 4066 blowing snow, nice.

Glad you got snow rather than me, in WV. How about a video of what would make the JD blower better or options for those of us that have either an X500 or a 318. I have both with a blower for the X500 and a blade on the 318.

Nobody is coming after you or your blower. People know JD 47's aren't what they should be. The fact that JD sells speed up kits and impellers that should come as standard is a testament to their lack of competency. You can buy a berco blower for a light duty lawn tractor that will blow circles around a 47.
