Pool Pump Humming Won't Start Most Common Cause The Start Capacitor

The swimming pool pump won't start, the pump is humming? Chances are it's the Pool Pump Capacitor. Don't buy a new pump, check to see if your capacitor is causing the issue first. Replacing the capacitor is much cheaper. This is a Hayward Pool Pump.WARNING: Make sure you discharge the capacitor. Make sure all power is OFF to the pool pump and motor! Also try to spin the motor shaft and check that the motor bearings aren't rusty or seized. Or just call a professional out if you are not comfortable with basic electrical and mechanical concepts.

Check your old capacitor & Motor for the right size:

Video should show the actual replacement of the capacitor. Also, where each of the (3) wires connect on the capacitor and from what component.

Should have replaced the capacitor while recording, to show that polarity of the capacitor is not an issue.

This video could get some people hurt by not telling them how to safely discharge the capacitor before removing. Also, how does anyone know how to replace it if it is not demonstrated in the video. Poor tutorial.

And when you do buy a starter motor capacitor buy 2 while you're there in fact I would buy them online at probably half the cost I'm learning the hard way I replaced my capacitor about 6 months ago on the pool I replaced the capacitor on my air conditioner about a year ago that just cost me $40 at my local capacitor pick up shop I could have bought the same crap online for $5 that's made in China anyway I'm going to buy a few for my pool and a few for my AC and it'll probably cheaper than just one down at the capacitor pick up shop and every other crap they sell from China okay take care.

I did this and my pump is still humming, and it gets hot to the touch in less than 20 seconds. Anything else I can check?

Don't waste your money on a start cap until you verify (by spinning the motor shaft) that the motor bearings aren't rusty or seized.

Very interesting stuff Rc Jr, but when I open the cover of my Hayward Turbo-Injection 2-speed pump, the only thing I see are wires for the switch, and some kind of spring piece that goes to the shaft... all of this is in front of a big metal piece covering the actual motor... I don't see any capacitors there... any thoughts? They must be hidden behind that big metal piece? (I doubt it since I see the tip of the shaft coming through, so my guess is there is nothing behind that plate other than the coil itself?

My washer machine motor doesnt spin at all 0 (zero) and it humms, no burn smell as well...thats what it means right? (if it was the motor it would spin a little bit right?) (Thanks please help!)

How tricky was it getting a screwdriver to take the back cover off and the mount for the capacitor? I think my capacitor went this morning and my pump is installed pretty close to a wall like yours.
