The Princess and the Cobbler Remastered

Greetings everyone, here is 'The Princess and the Cobbler' Remastered. This is my third attempt remastering it and I finally got to it. After the film was butchered, the film was released with the new title on September 23, 1993 in Australia. This would be Vincent Price's last role after he passed away the month after. It's very interesting how this ended up becoming. Richard Williams knew when making a deal with The Completion Bond Company years ago that if he didn't make the deadline, they'd take over. Fred Calvert ended up finishing the film, some ideas that were added weren't his, but has said that he's the one who gave Tack a voice. Now diehard purists like to blame Fred Calvert for ruining the film, but in reality, he was placed to inspect the film and later finish the film. He was told to cut scenes out and add musical numbers in order to market the film. If he wasn't involved, we could've gotten someone worse. This version wasn't even shown in the United States, instead Miramax (the only company that was willing to distribute the film) butchered it even more, added voices to more mute characters like the Thief, and got celebrities to replace them like Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Beals, and Jonathan Winters. Not many people are aware of the Calvert version since it was only released in Australia, some also say South Africa but there's been no proof. This was remastered so people can finally view this version and not watch the Timecode VHS. People deserve to see a specific version they want in good quality. Enjoy. I don't own anything in the video. All credit goes to the following person, Richard Williams (creator of The Thief and the Cobbler). And Garrett the Rat (who made a Fan-Edit).

YouTube has tried changing this for kids, luckily I was able to change it back. However, it looks like some comments were removed, and I have to make a pinned comment again.

I love the detail of tacks skin starting off white as snow showing he pretty much NEVER goes outside because he was poor and had to work pretty much non stop even in his sleep to a beautiful tan when they set out to see the which lady and spending 3 days under the hot sun with no shade presumably

I like how the princess is very smart and actually wants to be something AND tries to do that

After learning the history of this movie and its conections with Disney and the original creator the remasters feels so off now, makes me wish the original creator actually finished the movie how he wanted before, in his words, "Disney ruined it" but at the same time it still fills me with nostalgia

1:12:00 What I like about Tack's wedding outfit is that his drawings in the form of golden squares and triangles imitate his old decrepit clothes, which, if you look closely, he sewed many times with cuts and other pieces of fabric. And even when he got married and became a Sultan, the new suit shows that he remained the same.

Honestly I love the idea of Tack being selectively mute

Most intriguing is how determined this thief is, especially when One Eye invaded the city, the thief has the gall to grab the golden orbs and accidentally saved the city.

The thing that gives me comfort with this movie never being finished, is the thought that the thief stole the film and has the original lmao.

I love Tack's voice it especially suits it at the end. Not to mention, I get to hear "Am I feeling Love". That song is everything ❤️

They could’ve use a different Termanology to describe “balls” like sphere or orbs 😂 I couldn’t stop giggling to myself when the narrator was talking about the “magical balls”

when the princess and the cobbler first meet, the way they copy each other moving their heads is very cute🥰😁☺

Even in its truncated form, The Thief and the Cobbler is a spectacle of the finest hand-drawn animation ever put to film.

I always find the shot at 8:15 in the inserted "I want" song to be kind of eerie.

She's singing about wasted potential, and performing to this audience of no-one, out on this balcony. On the other side of the screen, after 28 years in production, it's playing to empty theaters.

This is the version of the film that I remember the most from my childhood! Thanks for remastering it. I never knew the film had such a complicated development history (or that there were different versions) until I started looking it up on YouTube!

The Cobbler's and the Thief's fates were literally tied at the hip in the beginning. Imagine what might have happened if the Thief were the one facing the guards?
