I can confirm that a big wheel next to your head is indeed terrifying. When I was young I fell off an atv my brother was driving in the woods. I maintained my grip with one hand though and ended up being dragged beside it. I was too afraid to let go as I believed I'd be run over by the back wheel spinning an inch from my face if I did (bro hadn't notice I'd fallen off and was still driving). It wasn't until after the ordeal was over that I realized hanging on was making getting run over far more likely than letting go. Somehow I emerged unscathed regardless.
