Bear Meat! What Does It Taste Like?

In this video I taste Black Bear meat and give you my impression of it. I tell you about the texture, flavor and opinion. This was meat from an old male black bear I harvested this spring in Wyoming. Bear meat, it is what's for dinner.

Only reason I don’t hunt bear is I feel uncomfortable when I eat it. Lol. I feel like I have to damn near make it into leather steaks or burger. It’s more of a mental thing for me. That trichinosis fear doesn’t allow me to eat it comfortably and I like my meat dripping red. It does make a good stew though! But then again the cost to tan a hide really eats into my hunting budget, but glad to see you enjoying the spoils of your hunt! Congratulations again!

I had a bear back strap my buddy gave me. He got an elk and the bear was following them because he probably wanted the elk. He got to close for comfort so they had to shoot him. It is legal in my state as long as you have an elk or other game tag. You can't stalk the but can defend yourself if needed. Anyways it was real good. make sure to cook it well done. They can have a 🪱 they will usually try to make it's way to your 🧠 or spinal cord.

In Alberta you don’t have to keep the meat as long as the fur doesn’t get wasted. After feeding a bear on a set full of rotten beaver does not make for any edible meat.

From my understanding bear falls into the pork category of meat instead of ruminant meat. It cant take the heat as much, so burgers or steaks arent that great but sausages, baking, smoking and curing are the way to go. Much more sweeter dishes would go better with bear i assume.
