I thought my dog had a tape worm before. 7am in the morning, i'm heading out for school, I notice something hanging out of her but, it was long and stringy, I put on some gloves and tried to remove it. Turned out she ate a plastic bag and it passed right through her. Worst part of it all... I still had to go to school.

Diphyllobothrium latum is the broad or fish tapeworm. It grows 3 to 30 feet. A bear poops out the eggs or broken off segments full of eggs in or near water. Eggs are eaten by copepods a tiny swimming crustacean water animal which is eaten by salmon. The bear eats an infected salmon and the tiny tapeworm latches onto the stomach lining. It grows a long time in the stomach and may get long enough to move out of the intestine. Pieces break off the segmented worm, the worm dies and eventually comes out and is mostly seen in brown, grizzly and black bears from British Columbia to Alaska.
