It IS pretty much perfect, I just wish Sony would do some upgrades that many have been wanting for (mainly bird AF and focus breathing)…

Wild to think it's been 2 years already...Sony really ticked all the boxes with the a7S III. I think it's easily (for video) one of their most important releases over the past 5-10 years, and will probably be viable for just as long.

Using mine daily for professional work the past 2 years and really couldn't be happier. It's a fantastic workhorse camera!

I still use my A7R3 for most of my photography work, but the A7S3 gets the job done in a pinch even with the lower megapixel count. Most clients are posting to social media and 1600w is plenty of pixels.

I can’t honestly see any reason why this camera will ever be made redundant. I also don’t see any reason why anyone would ever release any video project higher than 4k. I will be happy watching 1080p until the day i die. I don’t like looking at a 4k screen, it’s too sharp and realistic which makes it look like actors on a set. I only record in 4k to post crop. If there is one camera I am waiting for it would be the rx10 v. I’m hoping they improve the stabilisation to somewhat like their boss systems in the camcorders. That and a flippy screen and 10bit 4:2:0 4k 120, same lens. Downsampled from 4k 1080 240fps with clear image zoom x2 to get 1200mm… This would be a dream camera for wildlife videography

I had the FX3 for about a year and never really needed 4K 120, actually never used it. For economic reason due to the pandemia where I live, I sold it and my A7RIII and got the A7IV and am totally happy with it. Actually like the 4k 24 even more than the FX3. I do photography and video on most shoots so it is the perfect combo although I do miss 60p FF 4K bc I usually shoot 90% of my work in 4K 60p but I can deal with it. Once I get my 17-28 tamron, hoping a G2 comes out soon, I will be just fine with 60p 4K crop mode. I never shoot wider than 24mm any how.

Reminder for photographers who primarily use social media to show their work: Apps like instagram compress ALL photos down to 1.5 megapixels. So even if you crop the heck out of a 12 megapixel photo, you're still likely to have more than 1.5megapixels left and therefore your image will still look almost exactly the same as say a 24megapixel photo that is also being compressed down to 1.5megapixels. IMO if you're cropping most of your 12MP photos down to less than 1.5MP, you should focus on fixing your composition before blaming it on a low megapixel count

It's a powerhouse for sure. This was the dream camera for many Sony video shooters for many years waiting after all. No plans to upgrade until the Sony A7S IV -- its performance will hold out for a few more years imo. In the meantime I'll invest in glass and drone tech.

For photos, I use GigipixelAI to help with boosting resolution from my a7s3. I. Thinking of getting the A74 mainly because it has higher resolution but more importantly, focus breathing compensation.

Love my a7siii! I am sure something will tempt me in the next year or 2, but honestly this thing does everything I need and probably more. Great video.
