From Eli Manning to Daniel Jones: The Giants' Rebuild Story
The New York Giants’ journey over the last decade has been a wild ride. They went from winning two Super Bowls with Eli Manning to landing superstars like Odell Beckham Jr. and Saquon Barkley, only to end up cutting Daniel Jones. How did it all go down? Let’s break it down.

2011 Championship Glory
In 2011, the Giants were on top of the world. Eli Manning led the team, with standout wide receivers Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks making big plays. Their defense, led by stars like Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck, was even better. The season was up and down, but they secured a playoff spot by beating the Cowboys in a must-win game.

The Giants went on a magical playoff run, upsetting the 15-1 Packers and winning a dramatic NFC Championship against the 49ers. In the Super Bowl, they shocked the Patriots again, thanks to Manning’s clutch throw to Mario Manningham and a late touchdown drive.

Struggles Begin (2012-2014)
After their Super Bowl win, the Giants tried to keep the momentum going but couldn’t recapture the magic. In 2012, they started strong but faded late, missing the playoffs. By 2013, injuries and poor offensive line play hurt the team, leading to a 7-9 record.

In 2014, the Giants drafted Odell Beckham Jr., who became a superstar with incredible catches and big plays. But despite OBJ’s success, the team struggled again, finishing 6-10.

OBJ Era and More Challenges (2015-2017)
Odell Beckham Jr. continued to shine in 2015, but the Giants kept losing. The defense couldn’t hold leads, and they finished 6-10. After the season, longtime head coach Tom Coughlin stepped down.

In 2016, the Giants revamped their defense, signing players like Olivier Vernon and Janoris Jenkins. The defense carried the team to an 11-5 record and a playoff spot, but they lost to the Packers in the Wild Card round.

The 2017 season was a disaster. OBJ got hurt, and the offensive line couldn’t protect Eli Manning. The Giants finished 3-13, and both the head coach and general manager were fired.

Saquon Barkley and a New Era (2018-2019)
In 2018, the Giants drafted Saquon Barkley, who had an incredible rookie season. But the offensive line still struggled, and the team finished 5-11. By 2019, the Giants moved on from Eli Manning, starting rookie quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones showed promise but also made mistakes, and the team finished 4-12.

Rebuilding Again (2020-2021)
The Giants made some progress in 2020, finishing 6-10 despite losing Barkley to injury. The defense played well, but the offense needed help. In 2021, they signed Kenny Golladay and drafted Kadarius Toney, hoping to boost the offense. However, injuries and poor performances led to a 4-13 season.

Brian Daboll and a Turnaround (2022)
In 2022, the Giants hired Brian Daboll as head coach, and things started to change. They improved the offensive line and added new defensive players like Kayvon Thibodeaux. The team exceeded expectations, finishing 9-7-1 and making the playoffs. Barkley had a great year, and Jones showed improvement, helping the Giants win a playoff game before losing to the Eagles.

2023: End of the Daniel Jones Era
Despite the progress in 2022, the Giants struggled in 2023, and Daniel Jones was cut from the team. It marked the end of another chapter in the Giants’ ongoing rebuild.

This story of ups and downs shows how tough it is to build a winning team. The Giants have had some incredible moments but also some tough seasons. Will they finally find long-term success? Only time will tell.

It’s crazy how HIT or MISS the giants drafting has been

Crazy how bad we suck. We literally 1000x better this year than when we won in the WC round 2 years ago.

I still can't believe the Giants blew out prime Aaron Rodgers on a must-win SNF game in 2012 only to miss the playoffs.

Where did everything go wrong for the New York Giants.

1. Not having an O line for Eli Manning.
2. Benching Eli Manning for Geno Smith.
3. Drafting Daniel Jones.
4. Not getting Saquan Barkley for this season.

In 2019 the idea was to draft Justin Herbert from Oregon, but Justin Herbert decided to stay another year in college and the rest is history.

they could never replace the core 2005 offensive line, and they could never replace the core 2005 defensive line. Very recently it's also been the issue of letting the few good players leave the team for chump change, and overpaying bad free agents and also hitting massive duds in the draft. Gettleman's drafts in hindsight were about 50% decent or better to 50% busts, Hoe's have been like 80% busts.

The clear issue since 2011 has been offensive line. Most years they didn’t make any significant changes, and the years they did, it was with bad signings and bad drafting. Crazy that they wouldn’t seriously try to revamp with the best talent available while trotting out an aging, immobile QB for 8 straight years. Why do you need a small TE like Engram when your o-line sucks and could use a future pro bowl RT like Ryan Ramszcyk? Why are you drafting saquon to run behind Patrick omameh and ereck flowers? If they spent all the years outside of saquon and OBJ addressing O-line in the 1st/2nd round of drafts, they’d have built something solid and this team prob would’ve had a lot more playoff success through the 2010s. They wasted the back half of Eli’s career with completely atrocious roster mismanagement.
