Jesus said to the man on the cross next to him "today you will be with me in paradise". (Luke chapter 23 verse 43). Where was he talking about??? Was this man one of the 144000???

There are some translations that say “they are pure AS virgins” not that they ARE virgins. But the majority say the are.

While I enjoy talking about false JW teachings as much as anyone, nowhere in that issue of the Watchtower (yes, I looked it up and read it) does it say anything about 1935. So either Mr. Harris has the issue wrong or he has received some misinformation. Personally, I have always felt that, since the book of Revelations is about visions, it should not be interpreted literally. So I discount the 144, 000 account as a figurative number, not literal.

This is the thing.
Our theology is complex and even I’m not an expert in it all, but then again the bible is also complex with its versions symbology and layers of meaning.
But to me it’s still much more correct than the teachings of most mainstream churches.
Teaching that dead people go to heaven or hell discredits them because it’s not what the bible teaches.
Ecclesiastes 9:5
“For the living know that they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor do they have a reward any longer, for their memory is forgotten.”
It doesn’t say that they remain conscious following the death of the physical body and live on in some other place.
It’s against all logic anyway. The notion that God would create a realm of torture and suffering for those that he considers haven’t lived to the standards he expects of them only drags his name through the dirt by implying that he is a cruel and vengeful God as opposed to been a God of love and mercy.
Justice means the punishment fitting the crime and their are no crimes that could ever merit burning in hell for all eternity.
That’s just sadistic and people teaching this unbiblical nonsense are harming Gods public representation.
The hope in the bible is the resurrection hope.

It appears the witnesses get it correct on the 144, 000, the number is literal and the great crowd of people are not supposed to partake of the emblems of wine and bread. 1Cor 11:27
