A look at Mottisfont Abbey House and Gardens in summer. #nationaltrust #countryhouses

The aim of the visit was to catch the historic roses on display in Mottisfont's Walled garden. {Spoiler Alert} We may have been a week or two too late. However, the gardens were still a joy to discover, especially the lavender.

We moved on to Mottisfont's Kitchen Garden, restored in 2018, and producing an abundance of fresh produce.

A short stroll and then we explore Mottisfont House, sometime also known as Mottisfont Abbey, although it was actually built on a 13th-century priory. We explore the house as the last owners may have left it, Maud and Gilbert Russell, who acquired the property in 1934, and set about restoring it.

After leaving the house, we descend under to look at the earliest signs of the priory, before wrapping up and heading home.
