On the other hand, if your goal is strength and performance, train the hell out of your midsection.

I have a herniated disc and have had back pain and sciatica for over 10 years. Since I began regular training with weighted oblique raises and deadlifts, I have reduced my back pain significantly. I almost never think about it anymore.

Charles is just full of KNOWLEDGE! No BS. Advice that ACTUALLY works!! What I would give to have a REAL trainer like him. Just for a day.

I say it really depends on your hips. People with wide hips look hideous with obliques (especially if they have narrow clavicles). If you have a small waist and narrow hips, absolutely train your obliques...it will give you a nice balanced midsection.

Some people have thicker obliques to start off (Jay Cutler) and of course someone with a blocky waist should not train the obliques. I think it's one of the best looking bodyparts if you have the right waist size to develop them.

I love doing weighted obliques on the good morning bench but I'm not going for looks I just want to be able to take a kick or punch to the midsection

For combat sports we prefer bulky obliques.

Hes right. I do twist with 2-400. (standing) Strong but they do stick out.

Mr.Glass is giving bodybuilding aesthetic advice. I’m sure he knows it’s good to work them for performance.

Size 32 waist with under developed obliques trying to gain a fuller v line. Everywhere I go everyone online seems to just say "dont train your obliques" meanwhile mine are pathetic🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I have been using a resistance band to target obliques and upper chest by twisting the core and then extending the back hand forward and up just above shoulder height for 3 sets of 10-12 reps and seen some good results in short order. This feels substantial enough for obliques. You can always change up the resistance band and/or stand closer or further away from where you attach the band to modify the intensity.

Depends on your body. For
Example, I have shitty oblique genetics. Im all hip bone on the sides, so I need to work them!

I flipped and carried logs for years. My core is strong but built like a box. Thicc.

Charles do you have further information on what you recommend for ab exercises?

I don't do abs at all. I made my peace with the reality that abs won't show if I am to get as big as I can naturally. As time went, I learned that it has the benefit of accentuating that v-taper without much effort.

that is why most of the fitness youtuber only shows hanging leg raises side to side or the Russian twist...

I love thick obliques, it's great for stabilisation and really comes into play once you become an old man
