I used to teach and coach for over 10 years, but that career ended a couple of years ago. Brings back great memories watching this video. It's so rewarding when the student gets it. It's awesome that you do these long tutorials for free here on YouTube. All the best from Finland.

Oh my God! Just the video I needed. I was about quitting.... 38 and a beginner. Struggling with the taking breaths and kicking simultaneously. I almost lost confidence in my ability and was about giving up. But will try out these learnings on Monday when I go for my next lessons.

You're a great teacher. I am stuck here with you 🥰👌😎

I learned to swim at 34. Never thought I would step into a pool, had bad anxiety in water but I wanted to challenge myself. My coach's way of teaching me was to give a few verbal instructions and then push me to do it, no hand-holding, no taking baby steps into swimming, he just pushed me right into it. He never taught me to stand in the water from floating ( it was a 3.5 feet pool but for some reason, I just couldn't figure out how to come to standing from float) so for almost 6 months I would enter the pool anxious. It was frustrating but I kept at it and by month 8 I was able to do 25m front crawl. Then I learned to backfloat and backstroke and this is when my anxiety came down considerably, when I felt more control of myself in the water. By month 12 I had learned breaststroke and butterfly. Learning how to swim has been so rewarding, it is now my go-to fitness routine. For me it was 99% self-learning and 1% coaching I would say, watching videos like these really helped. I feel swimming is something that demands a gentle mindfulness and so learning how to be relaxed in water and letting go of anxiety was key. Next up for me is swimming in deep water. I am nervous and excited, wish me luck. 😀

Proud of you, Nick. Thanks for your efforts because I was practicing with you. I had a fear of the water because I was pulled under the water in elementary school. I was determined and learned the basics at 72 years old. I am still practicing.

Great job student and instructor. I always smile when I watch the videos of you teaching me and watching others. I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to train with you in Austin.

I’m so jealous of this man learning from you in person..
I am learning a lot watching this video.. I started swimming lessons first the first time ever in feb, the teachers don’t teach like this, not patient like you are and don’t teach breathing or anything. This man learnt all this in few hours without noodles .. insane

If I could fly from UK to Texas just to have the one to one, I’ll be expert swimmer

I refuse to believe he is 65. He looks as young as 40. I am a woman (34) and I have always mollycoddled myself for being scared of waters. Now I have started swimming last week on my birthday. No coach, just learning by myself. In one week I have overcame the fear of drowning by successfully swimming 20 meters 😂. From 0 to 20. It's never too late to learn something. And of course your videos are helpful. Keep up 👏🏻

Great video and greater job I know this isn’t easy. I’m a 74 year old plus size woman and just learning to swim. I love the water, take water exercise classes 5 days a week, but scared to death of going under water. First lesson I accomplished going under water. 😊

You are so patient and grateful coach, for me as an adult beginner, from the other side of the earth, a girl in Iran. ❤

I wish some swim coach took the time to show me all these steps when I was a kid instead of just throwing me down the deep end side of the pool thinking I'd figure it out
