This is actually pretty lore accurate aside from a few things: John had no role in all of this and Soren was convinced to take off by an Insurrectionist guy who took advantage of Soren's being upset about his mutilations from his failed augmentations. When the ship was shot down (which Soren mentions DOES happen here), the Insurrectionist guy died and Soren vanished into the forests of Reach. Halsey more or less decided to let him go, knowing that Soren was just an angry, confused and misguided kid. He was never seen again and he presumably died when the Covenant destroyed Reach.
