Darryl, enjoyed the video, (Enjoyed NZ as well in my visits in the past.) Full disclosure, I an Aptera reservation holder, investor, and volunteer brand ambassador. A couple of quick notes/additions:
The original founders, Steve Fambro and Chris Anthony, unfortunately lost control of the original company, when large investors took over and decided to make the vehicle more "marketable" (4 wheels, etc.) They left at that point since their vision was being dropped, and the original company liquidated when it was not able to secure government funding. (Tesla got a fair amount of that money.) The Intellectual property rights became available in 2018-2019 and SF and CA were able to reacquire it, and with the advances in tech that had come along, put the project back in play.
The base vehicle will have solar on the roof and dash, you can add on the hood and/or hatch as options, with full solar under sunny conditions 40 miles per day of range recharging is expected.
Aptera is expected to get 10 miles (16km) per kWh of battery.
The off road option is expected to consist of a slightly raised vehicle and higher and/or sturdier wheel pants.
FWD models are expecting 5.5 second 0-60mph and AWD 3.5 seconds.
The main body is a molded sandwich of composite around a honeycomb core, providing both great strength and insulating properties
As of September 11th reservation numbers were at 32, 000+.
Physical side mirrors are required for motor/auto cycles in the US at this time. The mirrors are of the minimum size, and although not verified, we believe they are designed so as to be able to remove the physical portion when regulations are revised in the future.
As you mentioned on the ease of repair, Aptera is a firm believer in "Right to repair" and online direction for procedures will be available. (Most components will have a QR code on them to link directly to pertinent online info.) (Specs will be freely available for aftermarket creators.)
The first 1, 000 vehicles built will be 400 mile FWD versions and will roll out beginning from San Diego to Southern California and then out again from there. (There has been no talk of Investors or employees getting preferential places in the queue.) It's most likely that at most 1 vehicle may be released by the end of 2022, with actual production starting in the first 1/2 of 2023.
Fully refundable reservations are $100 U.S. but with an easily available referral code they are $70 U.S. (Most of the Aptera YouTube channels have one, and anyone with an account on the Aptera website gets one for their use also, when it is used by someone you get an Aptera point towards a future vehicle purpose. (After the person who uses it completes their purchase.) I have a code also, and would be happy to provide it on request.
Nice video, Cheers.

Love and share your Aptera enthusiasm! I have followed them from the very beginning as well, and am so happy the original co-founders have control of the vision once again. My wife and I placed a pre-order and made a small investment in Aptera, in November of 2021. The roadster is going to be our new daily driver and we can't wait to be gliding around in it!! Hello from central Wisconsin, USA and thanks for your video.

The body is a composite material Kelvar, hemp woven into a beehive shape to help absorb impact. The stuff is reported to be 6/7 stronger than steel. The crash tests are going to be (although not mandated with an autocycle) sometime early next year. It has two airbags being planned, again the regulations do not mandate them, the Aptera company wants to make a safe car. I am also an investor, and reservation holder, and am waiting excitedly to drive mine all over the USA. The company is still looking for more investors, and currently is offering shares at $10.50 a share, minimum of $1000. US

Hi Darryl. Good to see a fellow Kiwi interested in this car. I’m actually a reservation holder at around number 7000. I won’t be expecting mine until well into 2024 at least as they’re doing local reservations first and I don’t know when they will get round to the right hand, drive international orders, my main concern at the moment is the exchange rate between New Zealand and US which is making it look too expensive on today’s rates. Hopefully they will improve in a couple of years. I’m very excited to drive one of these around New Zealand. I wonder how many other New Zealand reservation holders there are.

Great video. I was just at an EV event and saw the aptera. Very cool. You'd be surprised how much room there is in the cabin. It is more comfortable than my BMW Z4 or my Cayman S. I've got a order in, I'm somewhere in the 16, 000s.

Reminds me of the Messerschmitt KR200 that the 7th formers at Tawa college literally picked up from the staff car park and stuffed under the stage in the assembly hall, sorry Mr Finta.

I think the most recent reservation count is above 30k (33k maybe?).

I'm a little concerned at the width 223.5 cm. Imagine an oncoming car on the center line just clipping that front wheel cover
