"Monthly affairs" is such an overly formal way of referring to a period, i love it

They must’ve worked pretty well if it took modern pads an extra 100 years to catch on in China.

I’m from China and I remember I saw my mom hand-washed this kind of reusable pad. That was around 1990.

I’m First Nations and live in Canada . Moss was one of the things that was used to handle the monthly affair. In my culture, it’s known as moon time.

China basically invented reusable pads. I wouldn't say they lagged behind
(Edit: Y'all are getting mad but realistically ancient Chinese cultures is one of the few that made it to modern times. I'm not saying they are the ONLY ancient civilization with reusable sanitary pads but they were definitely one of the first. Most cultures used grass or hemp or similar materials that weren't super durable, including most Asian countries. As a native Australian with a civilization lasting 60, 000 years, making us the oldest LIVING civilization (not even close to use being the oldest civilization in history, don't misunderstand) I don't think we even had the technology of textiles for a few thousand years, until maybe 400 years ago. Which in the concept of time is no time at all.
You wanna be mad about facts, you do you boo.

Here in the Philippines, Filipino women call it "Buwanang dalaw", which translates to "monthly visits", which is synonymous with "monthly affairs".

I applaud the fact that a man is talking about this and being serious about it

in india women had shorts to be worn under their sari n lehangas(long skirt)made of cotton or even silk and pads were made of cloth by folding it a few times then later even started to use cotton wrapped in cloth because cotton has always been their native crop.

My mother was from china and in her teens she would use these because menstrual pads were too expensive.

I'm Indian and my mother taught me how to make homemade cotton pads, make a pocket of a thick cotton cloth and fill it with layers of cotton and sew two strings at the ends and tie them around waist. apparently it's a very old thing my grandma taught her, grandma's grandma taught my grandma. you can discard the cotton, wash this cloth in boiling water, sundry it, then fill it with new cotton and reuse it.
the belts shown in video are very similar to our homemade pads. also cotton has always been native to India so I'm sure this has been used for thousands of years in India.

It's worded that way so the way you talk about it can sound more formal. You can cancel appointments to "handle your monthly affairs "you can hire a monthly affairs manager and even make a three-year plan that plans your productivity around your monthly affairs. The possibilities are endless.

In india my grand mother told me that "they use cloth with ash filled and dry leaves filled to absorb period fluid. Look like it was universal thing

My grandma was Congolese and used these, my mother showed me how to make them in the '70s. The inserts were cotton, washed and hung in a closet on a the folding wooden clothes drying rack, away from visitors and men.

It happened in India also....in central India....my grandmother said that....they stitch a huge long pocket...and fill these with ashes....for 4-5 days and then tie it around...

Thank you for making a video on this topic. I found it highly informative and I also appreciate the many comments pointing out how many other cultures did the same.

OMG thank you so much!!!! This is the first time I’ve ever been able to find something about what women used instead of pads before they were invented
