Wiz & Mac were pretty much the soundtrack to my freshmen through senior days & post highschool. Sometimes it’s even tough to listen to them now because so many memories come back to me in waves that it’s almost depressing because those days were simply the best.

Mac been my favorite ARTIST/MUSICIAN/RAPPER since my first go at sobriety a few months before GOOD AM dropped. I remember being excited because I was working at a gas station grave yards and was reading a magazine that had mentioned GOOD AM and drop date. I ended up relapsing for about 4 years, lost my brother in law and one of my dearest friends. Was smoking heroin all day every day as a functioning addict in rural Colorado. I was working paying bills, getting my kids ready for school, being a decent father and husband. I wasn’t neglectful or abusive and didn’t do it in front of children my wife didn’t know the extent of my addiction. She had caught me with with used foil or tooters a couple times but i just played it off as someones else’s or just experimenting. I am in no way justifying now what i was doing, only, explaining the situation. I listened to Mac through that relapse and took it to a dark place but still felt like i wasn’t alone in my feelings because of his self expressions. I ended up checking myself into an inpatient program and havent looked back since. I just had my 5 years sober on December 11th. When i got out of rehab a few months went by before Swimming dropped. Im around 35 at the time so I still like to buy cds lol but that disk stayed in mine and my wife’s car probably for a solid year. I was at work when my cousin had texted me the news of his passing. Ive never cried for someone I’ve never even met…such a loss. Circles dropped at a point where I was around my midway recovery point. I felt I could accomplish anything i set out to. Have been working as a Peer Recovery Specialist for the last two years in Southern Colorado. Yesterday I took the step and changed departments to a detox facility so I can have the space and time to work towards being a clinical counselor. We listen to Mac when we’re happy, when we’re down and in between. Wiz is a solid dude. There is nothing wrong with setting healthy boundaries for yourself and for others. ✌🏼💙

i had a friend who passed away from an overdose last year. i remember having that conversation about all of it. telling him that he has so much to look forward to, little sister that loved him. he did get sober for some time, or at least was going to go to rehab. he ended up relapsing and passing away a night before he was moving in with a friend and planned on helping him get into some kind of program. and i instantly thought of that conversation, just like how wiz said

Completely understand that, Your friends should be encouraging you in positive, non-destructive ways. Shouldn’t have relapsed…
