Hello, everyone. Today, I will show you how to sew a Japanese Noble Binding, also known as Koki Toji Binding.

This Tutorial is one of three. Each teaches you the sewing pattern of a Japanese binding technique.

My husband sure does wish I’d watched this video before I made my recipe book. I didn’t think to put something down on our beautiful dining room table before punching holes and didn’t realize I was punching straight through the pages into it! 🫣 Our table looks like it had the chicken pox now 🥴😂

A pronunciation note, based on what my sensei taught me in college: instead of pronouncing "koki" like "cocky", the character/syllable 'ko' has more of a long 'o' sound. It's the same 'o' sound as in the words "hole" and "coal" and "no". Otherwise, your pronunciation was good!

Neat trick with the beginning of the sewing. I learned to start in the middle of the book block. I recently did a couple of poetry books containing haiku with that technique. I was using a japanese hole-screw-punch, which was a real hassle. Took a lot of time and strength. Not sure whether using an awl is much better. Next time I'm gonna use an electric screwdriver.

I love your way to teach. I learnd so much... i got one question. Would this kind of bookbinding work with very thick paper about 600 g/m ? Should i do a fold like on the Cover?
