This video demonstrates the process for sand casting an aluminum Def Leppard sign. The pattern was 3D printed on an FDM printer and prepped with primer and spraypaint. The sand used is 190mesh petrobond. The aluminum is scrap from car parts and previous castings.

I think casting the part was an acceptable method. But considering the little metal this required, and the overhead, I would have done another mold. Either the same part or a different part.

The one thing I didn't see in the video was if you used a brush on the part after you applied the talcum powder. I think using a soft artists brush does a better job of adhering the talc to the part.

These pours are coming out great. Mine always have a pretty rough texture. What kind of thermocouple do you use to measure the temp?
