There are only 2 reasons I keep using Windows: 1) My home-based business is dependent upon a large company's networked systems that are not fully compatible with other OSes than Windows and 2) gaming - while many games run on Linux and even haver versions of my favorite games written in Linux, their video drivers don't give the performance/fps that are present in the Windows environment. The solution would be to dual boot OSes or to have a Linus PC for everything but gaming and for work (but then what's the point?) There is yet to be created a fully Windows-compatible alternate OS. Back in the day several companies produced their own DOS programs that were fully compatible with the Microsoft OS. There were even a couple Windows-like compatible OSes such as OS/2 and OS/2 Warp. Unfortunately Microsoft became a huge monopoly and made the world (somehow) use it exclusively with exception to industrial versions of Unix and Linux. The bottom line issue for thee and me is cross-platform compatibility with games and hardware. We need games being written for Linux and better hardware drivers. Also, the public needs to divorce itself from MS dependence; which is a very large expectation.

Windows did another forced update and suddenly deleted years of research data from my laptop. How do I sue Microsoft?

I have really had it with Windows.. win 10 is extremely buggy and crashes more than any other version I have used. win 7 was the best IMO, stable, fast and no issues. Being forced to keep changing versions of windows with an increasing amount of unwanted advertising, snooping and being forced into using a MS account in win 11 which is a deal breaker for me ( I know the ways around this) . still, I want a reliable OS that is stable and just works.. prob why I love my Macbook pro so much. any downsides to Ubuntu peeps?

I like the look of Zorin over Mint, but I like that Mint comes with all of the codecs; something I've struggled with on Ubuntu. I like that Zorin can run windows apps. Sucks to invest in app for windows, only to reinvest for everything when you upgrade systems. I have an old laptop around to paly with these two.

For who can't decide: Fedora is the best in the list. It's my favourite distro after Arch-Based distros (i use Xero Gnome now)

Can you please do a video on Xfce and mate vs cinnamon? It seems the lite distros aren't so much lighter than the main distros anymore or its just my machine? Only noticed a 30% difference in RAM usage. LXQt (Lubuntu) at least is still as light as xfce previously was...

Please also mention the bad stuff about the operating systems. Chrome OS is google which means some people may have privacy concerns with it.

Personally im using mint cinnamon which seems to have a bug with its software manager as it takes ages to open, wish i could switch off software update notifications completely (Zorin OS had awful momentum scrolling i couldn't switch off, also takes ages to open software store but otherwise looks a lot more polished for its UI)

I might try a few of these, but Chrome, yeah I don't think so. The whole purpose of leaving windows is the constant spying/monitoring and the constant issues after the frequent updates that take forever and slow my computer down more and more with each update. It does not help that they keep adding a butt-load of unnecessary crap that you absolutely do not need and hate that you can not disable or turn off. Chrome is famous for these exact same things. I'd like to get away from all of these things, plus all my info and searches being sold off to anyone that will pay for it.
I can't see myself doubling down and letting the largest seller of information completely control my computer and information.

I HATE WINDOWS. AS MUCH AS A PERSON CAN HATE ANYTHING I HATE THIS CRAP... I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MESSED UP WINDOWS IS. it blows my mind. it blows it completely out of the fucking water. WHY WOULD ANYONE EVER WANT TO USE the blue screens, the registry errors, the file corruptions, the system file errors, the bloatware that crashes my system, the inability to change stupid things like what default program I want to use, the shutting down in the middle of a game cuz of something that causes me to lose all save files in all my games (I played for years to get those save files) the goddamn constant updates that just break things, the way it just reverts EVERY SINGLE SETTING whenever the hell it wants to. it takes me a VERY VERY long time to set up a PC with Windows on it. AND THE ONLY THING I USE MY PC FOR IS GAMES. WHY IS IT SO FUCKING RIDICULOUS TO GET GAME BAR TO NOT FUCKING SHOW UP ANYMORE? WHY IS WINDOWS STILL USED I DON'T GET IT

The only thing I hate about Linux mint is I use my phone for internet and can't get Easytether to work and have to use my hotspot data. I'm not too technical and with all Linux systems you damn near have to be a computer programmer to use it.

Other Linux Distros that are good for people jumping or coming over from Windows are ; Manjaro KDE (It is based on Arch buut with a whole set of GUI apps to make easy for the user), another one is Big Linux (which is based of Manjaro but when running fresh from install it has all the apps you want or could think of installing plus is updated frequently as well so no worries there), a third one could be Kubuntu which is basically Ubuntu but just within Ubuntu but is running same desktop as the other two mentioned and because it is Ubuntu you got the security of Ubuntu as well, for the fourth one one can think of Garuda or for that matter Endeavour OS both are based on Arch and both are packed with apps and setup for gaming right out of the box for users so basically no need to install anything you need for gaming as it is already setup for it ... All have KDE in common which can be good for people coming over from Windows as it is both familiar to Windows but also easy to navigate in plus you get the option to custimize your OS to your liking which you really dont get in Windows at all :)

it was not a matter of windows. it was the crowdstrike security aplication. the linux users mostly don't use crowdstrike. redhat reported there were people affected by the crowdstrike crash.

it was a thing which can happen to people in any os.

i am all in for more linux users but the thing is it was not a microsoft issue.
