ASVAB Math 4

Sample problem from the ASVAB mathematics knowledge section in the military placement exam. This section has to be done without calculators and is timed. I go over some tips and tricks on how to do well on standardized math exams and some of the secrets to doing well.

Usually when I look at these types of questions. I’m often afraid I might get them wrong. This helps builds the confidence

(5+1)(6÷3)(8-5)=3x+3x
we can solve the above by using the distributive property or by directly solving what is inside the parentheses which is far faster
we get
(6)(2)(3)=6x
36=6x
36/6=x=6

This was neat. I just did the math right quick in my head on this one. But, canceling out will come in handy for harder problems.

I’m guessing #17 answer is gonna be 56? Since the square root of 49 is 7, and the square root of 64 is 8, and multiply them two answers together?

Would it be the same as doing 6÷2=3, 3-3= 0, (3+3)= 6. Or is this the wrong formula for this type of problem?
