Here's the deal about making compost. Don't overthink it, don't obsess about it. As long as you get a general mix of green/brown it doesn't matter. You don't have to be exact.

Best to mix the top soil with the compost as it will bulk it out. Top Soil doesn’t have anywhere near as much goodness as compost but is fine if mixed with it.

That’s what you need on your veg gardens Manure. You will definitely get crops next year if you just plonk that on top of your beds and rake over. 👍❤️👍

I’ve been making compost for a couple of years, it’s very satisfying! You should get a wheelbarrow or two of wood chips and manure to help with your compost

Pleased to see you are getting the hang of gardening and that if you (or me )grow anything consider it a bonus 😂

If you're looking at starting up your compost heap try planting a bed of Comfry but use the Bocking14 strain as this won't seed as it can become very aggressive and take over, the leaves make fantastic fertilizer also are great compost accelerators ir you can just throw the leaves on the ground as a mulch as they break down quick. Plus Bonnie and Clyde for the scarecrows

Hi Emma. Best not to push your onion sets straight into the ground, you may damage the basal plate (where the roots come from). Make a hole first. Also you can plant them deeper, so just below the surface (hiding them from the birds) and trust me they will grow and sit on the surface like you would expect. I have found that planting Onions in the Autumn are more prone to run to seed than planting in the spring. So I only plant in the spring. Yes it is nice to get stuff in the ground this time of year but I just do garlic over winter because they need the cold to split properly.🦊

My pumpkins and sweetcorn here in Coventry were great this year, I chuck everything thats finished in the compost bin and seems ok, the squirrel however finished the last of the sweetcorn off😢

Emma I spend ages throughout summer cutting off the sweet pea tendrils cos as you said they hinder the flowers even strangle them tbh wish you luck keeping them going until the first frost 🤞

Cute to see a squirrel I think they’re so cute but they can potentially create havoc with crops. I’m fortunate I see the odd one in my home garden but not at the plot ….yet 😂
