If you plan on getting your grandkid, son, daughter, nephew, or niece a starting rod and reel set up save some money and headaches and pick up an inexpensive Zebco 33 or even a barbie rod for that matter. The best place for your turd launching rocket rod is in a land fill or in a incinerator.

I understand most of you probably see this as a gateway product to get a young angler into the sport of but in reality it's not the way to go. If you want to get your son, daughter, niece, nephew, or grandkid into fishing get them a zebco 33 or even a barbie or spider-man rod. Inexpensive set ups like these are what got me into fishing and they correlate far better when a young angler wants to take the next step into fishing a spinning or casting setup. By all means, get a young angler into fishing but don't start with this. I had one of these when I was 7 and it extremely bummed me out.

Im a huge fan of yours Jon. B. but I have to disagree with one thing... as cheesy as the infomercial was, the Banjo Minnow is responsible for my top 2 or 3 biggest largemouth, all over 4lbs. Its really no different than a weightless fluke rig. just throwing that out there...Banjo Minnow, not as bad as most people think! Keep up the good work Jon! I've learned alot from these vids.

My dad bought me a banjo minnow set several years ago, I actually caught several fish, granted they were all in small creeks and ponds but still caught several. Our local lake has fishing tournaments every weekend from mid spring to mid fall so the LMBs can be a pain to catch at times.
