In this video I test a Johnson / Evinrude prime solenoid and then install a repair kit. This involves an electrical test of the solenoid and a pressure test of the valve seal.

Thank you! This video saved my duck hunt on Saturday. We hunt on a lottery system so I get very few opportunities. At 4:30am in complete darkness I had no idea why the motor wouldn't start and your video amazingly showed in my Google search. Perfect. Awesome. Honestly words don't do it justice. This couldn't have been more perfect.

Simply Outstanding! Thanks, my neighbor is new to boating and is having trouble starting his 75 Evinrude. He mentioned turning a red valve and it would start, he probably doesn't know about pushing key in for cold start. He's gonna be happy for this info, great job!

Just started rehabbing an 89 tracker with a 50 evinrude. This solenoid/ check valve was leaking after fixing several other issues. This video was exactly what I needed! Mine looked just like this one, cracked etc. This feller is fantastic! Obviously very knowledgeable, well spoken and does a good job explaining! Please keep up the good work! Going to marineengine right now to order parts! Thanks so much!

You make something complicated seem pretty dam easy. Love how you explain what something is doing, how it's doing it, and WHY it's doing it without making your audience feel like dunces.

Stu ..Thanks to your videos a 25yr old issue is resolved. Pulled off the primer solenoid and found a worm of gasket material plugging the fuel inlet side of the primer. Cold starts are no longer an issue.

Thanks Stu. I just did this fix on my 1992 Johnson 70 which seems to be a great engine. I was able to simply unscrew and reuse the top, leaving the two hoses on the small barbs attached so as to not risk breaking them. Slid the new diaphragm in place and my "choke" works perfectly now. Wouldn't have know what to do without you. Thanks so much! Think I'll get some Dangar merch. with the money I saved.

Great walk-through. As a Charter Capt I feel more confident on the water knowing how these this work and how to fix them. It also saves me lots of $$.

That's the same exact primer that I have on my 1989 Johnson Evinrude 70 horse VRO and now I better understand how it works and what I may have to do to repair it in the future! Thanks so much for your videos you are a great teacher and thanks for sharing your knowledge with others.

Stu, you are a legend!! That little red part is cracked on my engine and leaking fuel when choked. I was wondering what it does and how to fix it! You've answered everything and given me the part no., thanks again I will order the part from your link.

This video was perfect. Mine is leaking when I squeeze the primer bulb on the fuel hose so now I know to order the rebuild kit. Thank you Dangar. Sending gratitude from Florida 🤙🏻

Teaching a marine tech program, and we all love the old Outboards, love this guy. It's always more important with an Aussie accent too!

Another great Tutorial... even to the extent where this Gentleman places his hand near to the lens for the camera to refocus onto the part number packaging... Great for budding home handymen who need knowledge but not necessarily experience.

I have been having big issues with starting... So had my carby cleaned and still issues... IMO you have just told me what my issue is... I am surprised my mechanic did not do this.. to eliminate a possible reason... It certainly is not a complicated job... Many thanks, will ask my mechanic to do this ...

As always, excellent work Stu. My engine education was locked in a 1980s time warp when butterfly chokes were the only gig in town. Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the vid! My 89 70hp Evinrude was running like crap. I found the override valve opened half way. Back to run position, runs perfect!

Excellent. I just found this on my engine today and wondered what it did and where that red handle should point. Huge help. Mjne was about 1/2 way.
