I’m 67 years old and have lived my entire life in Mississippi. #43 is a huge win in that every time I have observed state rankings regarding quality of life issues we are nearly always #50. The reason we have come up in the rankings is that my daughter is a teacher in the Mississippi public school system, and she raised Mississippi’s ranking seven points by herself! I am very proud!

My mom taught in public elementary schools for 40 years in Worcester, MA, the second largest city in the state. She spent some years in every grade from kindergarten through 5th grade. I like to think she contributed to the state’s top quality education.

As a Masshole, I'm not surprised we're #1. It's why we have our own teachers' exam, the MTEL; your Praxis is no good here. We pay our public school teachers well as a result. In my town, the median teacher salary is $85k.

The major problems with elementary, middle, and high schools in America are the long and disorganized semesters being 18 week sessions.

Number 5 is not too shabby. But near DC more resources are given to NOVA(northern VA) while in rural counties and SOVA (southern VA) teachers sometimes use their own money to buy school supplies. Still when my daughter was in highschool (SOVA) they sent educators from different states to see how we did so much with so little. Respect for our teachers.

I'm pushing 70 and all I have heard my whole life is more money 'it's for the children' and the same results it's for politics, union pensions and property tax money.

I remember going to high school in New Jersey, vaguely, but I remember. They took education seriously. My high school offered classes that made an impact on your future. There was a consumer math class that focused on math used in real life situations such as shopping, taxes, insurance rates, anything relevant. There was even a course that introduced people to playing piano. I took that course and I enjoyed it. They also required that students take at least one computer science-based class to graduate. This class wasn't too difficult by high school standards, but if you wanted something more in-depth there were vocational tech schools that helped you earn certifications in these careers, and some high schools had share-time programs with them.

New Jersey education is something New Jersey teens don't realize they're lucky to have. I didn't even realize it myself until ten years after I graduated.

I grew up in CT and went to the top public school system (at the time). Tons of funding for the arts was one thing that stands out in my memory. I’m raising my kid in MA and I feel lucky to be here and provide him with so many opportunities.

New Jersey made the list #2. I am not the least bit surprised. I was born and raised here, the school systems are great, a few hiccups here and there of course but overall great. 4 out of 5 of my children graduated high school with an 3.0 GPA or higher, even though we were living in a not so the greatest of urban NJ cities.

I went to school in Oklahoma and the schools there care more about sports than academics.

Just moved my family from NY to VA and although NY is one level higher in Education what we gained as a family with piece of mind among everything else is priceless!! Great 👍🏾 Video Briggs

I'm not surprised that Minnesota is so high. I graduated 21 years ago with a Special Education major from a college in Sioux Falls, SD, which is 12 miles from the Minnesota border. We always talked in classes about the HUGE gap in teacher pay between Minnesota & the rest of the area.
