Steelseries Apex & Apex Raw Gaming Keyboards - Linus Tech Tips CES 2013

Steelseries launched the Apex and Apex RAW, with the goal of legitimately making their customers better gamers. They are full programmable (every button) and the new & improved Steelseries software allows you to track which buttons you use most frequently while you're gaming to optimize for travel times.

Membrane key can be really quiet but thats because they have a more squishy/gummy feel also how hard you press them is a large factor. Unlike some mechanical switches there is not that clicky sound, more of a soft thud so to speak.

The repositioning of the windows and steelseries key is fantastic, I had much trouble getting used to using a windows key on the other side of the keyboard for win-r, win-d, win-e etc. That being said I am never leaving my 7G.

I've heard them say they are having trouble building up stock. Same with like Haswell or something being ready and working copies out, but not out yet.

whoa! very nice looking keyboard. I actually thing the fat spacebar looks legit. adds a fresh new look that doesn't over complicated things. and the way the keyboard goes from thick to thin is also a really nice look.

been looking around for keyboards for a while, and i think these two boards are it.

Just wanted to say that mechanical keyboards actually aren't the newest thing on the market. Cherry MX keyboards may be newer (and those are the most popular now), but technically buckling spring keyboards (like the IBM Model M) are mechanical. Either way you're correct, not everyone uses mechanical keyboards and good on SteelSeries for making something for the other gamers. I can't type or game on a membrane, but this is great for the people who prefer to. Have a good day!

The blackwindow has blue switches which are really loud and have a tactile click. The other switches feels so different.

Is there still no backlit mechanical keyboard from Steelseries?

I would die for a mechanical Merc Stealth. The positioning of the gaming keys is so nice.

That would depend if you wanted mechanical or not. If not, this would be a great choice, especially considering the price points

I like the large font on the keys and some of the other ideas.
But after going mechanical, I find it hard to use a membrane keyboard.

Dandy opinion, but do you know the actuation force on the SS Apex? Those of us that choose Mechanical keyboards over normal keyboards typically do so because of things like actuation force and distance over durability.

The colors are programmable. You can set them to whatever you want.

when you were talking about the space-bar i realized that i don't use my thumb for the space-bar i use the pointer finger on my right hand or i rarely use my thumb on my left hand.
