"But, unfortunately football now is full of image. It's full of image. And people gives more attention to the ones that look than to the ones that really are." - Jose Mourinho.

Summed up the football world nowadays perfectly. Absolutely love this man.

"Many times the captain is not the leader"

100% valid if we look at Harry Maguire right now

You should add Jorge Costa to the title, he is mainly the story here

Zanetti doesnt need to speak a word to show his leadership when he always do and run with 110% effort on the pitch the rest of the team would feel ashamed if they are not doing so as well.

Zanetti is and was the ultimate leader and captain. You could see the younger players looking up to him as well as the established older players. A true leader of men.

Jorge Costa was built like a battleship and turned like one. You always thought a young speedy forward would have him on toast, but never. He was literally solid as a rock. So deserving a CL winner. Not glamour, just 100% commitment.

Zanetti is not only leader, but now he is vice president of inter Milan.
not all football players get awards like that.
His leadership, dedication and passion are still needed even when he retires

Jorge Costa was an absolute beast! What an amazing captain and true leader he was! He could motivate everyone around him to even die for the club if necessary! I miss having players like him

When France won the world cup in 98 and then Euros in 2000, that team had more leaders than any team in living memory. Deschamps was nominally the captain. Then you had Desailly. Thuram. Blanc. Barthez. Viera. Lizarazu. Before you even got to likes of Zidane. Never has a team been packed with so many leaders.

I started watching football about 97. The feeling it gave me was unbelievable. It's like the passion is gone today game. I remember coming from school to watch a Ronaldo inter Milan vs Lazio eroupa finals. Magical man

I like Mourinho and Zlatan's Interviews.. U can tell the mind is clear when they speak. They know what they are going to say, and they don't usually care how others perceive it as long as they think they are right

That's why Barcelona is struggling last seasons. No real leaders in the team after Puyol, Xavi and Mascherano left. Messi is the best footballer, but he is not a leader.
