mike, half of our utilities bills in Australia are just infrastructure I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case in Canada, they make their money by constantly building new infrastructure instead of the actual gas, also pro tip, why not just convert the building to accept gas canisters, then go buy a 9kg tank which you would use for a bbq and connect it to the house (except natural gas cylinder instead of LPG gas) people who run their house on LPG gas in Australia some have got the gas line to accept canisters (which is both cheap/easy because the piping in the building already exists, your just adding a new "entrence" for gas to be put into the pipes) and then instead of buying a 50kg or 20kg canister from the gas company people go down to a trade store and buy 9kg bbq LPG bottles and use those,   you should look into doing the same (once you can run the 9kg canister you cancel your gas connection with the company so you don't need to pay for useless infestructure) also my grandfarther used solar panels and a battery system for his off grid house, its not hard and depending on how you do it, if you get a trades man to to do it or a mate who is lisenced, basically my grand farther did solar/generator setup on a battery system, its cheaper in the long run (like a year or two) its easier and when their was black outs in the town he was in the house still had power because he wasn't connected to the power grid, water isn't that hard to get if you have a creek or stream and someone in  WA aus is using fridge condensers to pull moisture out of the air and piping the condensed water into 1, 000L water tanks in a desert, so in theory doing that you can get water anywhere, be creative my dude

I think they are called carry charges. Our gas bill has more carry charges then the use of the product, let's say we use $50. And pay $ 90. in carry charges. What a swiz.

Oh my, That's very high, they are overcharging. We don't use NATURAL gas but electricity ($200-$250/month) is still very high for us we just turn off AC in the winter....

Yup, , my gas bill here in Kelowna was 110 bucks. 10 bucks was for the actual gas, ,,,ha .. Canada 🇨🇦 is so crazy.

My mom came up with a cool idea....get a bunch of outdoor solar lights ...put each one in a ceramic pot with flowers. Then bring in a few at night for reading and stuff. Really, it started out as earthquake survival ideas but then we kept going. Anything to screw with power companies. Lolol

Mike, when you sell an item from your store to a customer for say $10, why can't you charge $79 for the same item? You know, just add to the bill a "stuff" line item in the bill ... then see the reaction of the customer ... like you have five heads. We as customers put up with this crap. I assume you are with direct energy. I tried calling them to complain. Their call center is in Columbia or Brazil or some place like that.

An absolute rip-off. At those prices it might be economic to convert to propane. Also look into getting a wood/coal stove you can generally if you are willing to do the work pick up wood for free.

Hey Mike, I know, the stuff sucks! I am in BC also. Used to have oil. Paid to put gas meter in. Never changed furnace as of yet so never hooked gas up. Was charged monthly for basic charge plus interest and wouldn't pay as they couldn't cut me off. Eventually had to get the meter removed for free lol. Problem: still had to pay bill. :(
I heat soley by wood stove with free wood. :)

Maybe you can get a tank on your roof like you mention from a different company. Don't get a windmill because it has a low constant hum that will affect your health amd keep you and your neighbours from sleeping.

I don't know but you might want to switch to balance billing vs month to month. Yes you received a bill every month but it balance your payments
