When I watched this in theater I was thinking: “why the hell Mace Windu went with the 3 weakest Jedi to arrest Palpatine?” 😀

0:33 I like how the Jedi on the left is deciding on whether he should take a swing at Palpatine or not

I have always enjoyed the fandom trying to canonize the Sith Battle Cry because no one can rationalize Ian McDiarmid just letting out a banshee scream in middle of the scene for no reason.

Here's how the fight scene should've played out:

- Palpatine does the spin attack.
- He lands down.
- (Skip the shot of Windu backing up).
- (Skip the shot of Palpatine backing up, preparing to thrust).
- He instantly stabs the jedi master without hesitation.
- {Then you get the shot of Windu backing up}.
- Palpatine stabs the other jedi.
- And then he slices the 3rd one.
- Then he strikes a few swings at Windu.
- Windu backs off.
- {Then you get the shot of Palpatine backing up, preparing to thrust}.
- And then Palpatine attacks and the fight plays as usual.
- And maybe make the fight scene play in 1.25x speed to make the scene more intense (and yeah, the music would also be playing in 1.25x speed, but in reality it just makes the scene both look and sound even more intense), except for the part when the jedi masters are screaming (because they obviously wouldn't be screaming in 1.25x speed) and the part when they shattered the window into pieces because you know... gravity.

This would've made it seem like Palpatine was an expert lightsaber duelist and that he can move at suprisingly fast speeds for an old man, _and also not make the jedi masters seem like a bunch of idiots that tried to threaten an old man, but then proceeds to instantly freeze once the old man spins at them._

A lot of people write elaborated theories to justify this scene. It seems that they wanted to showcase Palpatine's power in that scene, and they did it in a very lazy way. Not everything must have an explanation, this is just fault on filmmaking end.

Fun fact:

You'll notice that Jedi Master Agen Kolar's Lightsaber is blue, when he went with Mace Windu to arrest the Chancellor, but his Lightsaber appears as green during the battle of Geonosis. This is because his young Padawan had be killed during the battle, and he took his fallen Padawan's Lightsaber crystal and made modifications to his own saber's internal structure, to fit the crystal in his own, in honor of his fallen Padawan.

His original Lightsaber color is in fact green, but it would seem that he utilized his Padawan's crystal went he went to arrest to Chancellor, perhaps it was because he harbored some sense of anger within him, now knowing that Palpatine orchestrated the whole war, and that his Padawan died in such a pointless war.

In this sense, he also seemed to have an emotional connection with his Padawan, considering that he took on her Lightsaber crystal, instead of letting it be stored away; which would indicate that he somewhat disagreed with the Jedi's teachings on emotional attachments.

I remember seeing this scene for the first time and I would have no problem with them dying. it's just the way that they died was so quick and easy. Even as a little boy watching this, i never liked the start of this fight scene and for a jedi master to be that easily beaten was always strange to me lol. Glad i'm not the only one.

Upon rewatching the fight, Kit Fisto lasted a LONG time in comparison to everyone else.
He was able to parry at least 4 or 5 times, do like 3 spins, reposition with Windu to surround Sidious.
But just wasn't fast enough and got slashed.

The only cool part of that fight was Kit Fisto.

Yeah, this can all be explained away. However, watching this scene makes me cringe. If these really are Jedi Masters.. wow.. I felt embarrassed for them... smh.

Also 4 jedi bottle necking at the hallway limited their movements. They were like fish in the bucket to palpaitine which is bound to hit anyone when he attacked straight to them

I like how it isnt a half hour video explaining something simple. You just went straight to the point. This is the kind of video that gets my respect

It looked like Agen Kolar wasn't even paying attention. He was looking off in a different direction right before Sidious stabbed him. As if he was thinking "Did I leave my oven on?" and the next thing he knew there was suddenly a lightsaber in his chest.

In the novel, palpatine literally jumped on Kolar mid sentence to take him by surprise and eliminate him as fast as he could. Otherwise, I think it has been confirmed not only his sith cry weakened/affected them, but also that Palpatine was way stronger and faster than anticipated... Simply that Ian McDiarmid wasn't fit enough to make it look that way

Yes, that always bugged me too. These Jedi are supposed to be highly trained fighters, wielders of the Force, always prepared to defend and protect which includes themselves, right? Even those who do not use the Force as the Jedi did, can see that if some older dude just corkscrewed his way in mid-air across the room with his light saber active coming at you, you’d better be paying attention with the intention of staying alive. But no, those Jedi were killed in the first few seconds, standing there doing whatever like “did I forget to turn off the stove at home?” Or, as you say, their arrogance and superiority was bouncing around in their heads…old man, so he’s weak, and I, Jedi of the year, can take this wannabe down in a flash…then I can go home and turn off the stove.

In legends, the aura of Palpatine acted to “muddy the mind and actions” of those around him. It’s how he hid, as the Senate liaison to the entire Jedi order, in plain sight.

They were masters but unlike Windu, who was a paranoid and trained vs theoretical dark side opponents to obsession, they were unprepared. So for them the fight was like boxing under water.

I think the novel stated that his speed took them all by surprise. Implied force speed too.

Apparently Palpatine has not only mastered all forms of lightsaber combat, but considers it to be a joke and only carries one as a meme.

my personal headcannon is that the way its shot makes it look like hes attacking far more slowly then hes actually attacking, for instance theres a whole camera shot showing him reposing straight after he jumps across the room which makes the pacing have a split second break before engaging for the second time (after engaging from jumping), then theres him attacking them one by one and the rest seem to be just standing there watching with their arms up. i imagine if it was a single camera shot at full speed the whole fight would happen in literally seconds with a flurry of super fast red flashes

They had never faced any being as fast as sidious. His unbelievable speed took them all by surprise. His speed was one of his unique force abilities

"Who had he been fighting?" That's an interesting question, because really, how often had the Jedi been using their lightsabers against anything other than Battle Droids? Given that the only lightsaber users most of them have ever met would be other Jedi, how many of them have EVER been in a proper lightsaber duel?
