Boeing and United Airlines: Past, present and a Dreamliner future

In 1929 aviation pioneer William Boeing joined with Pratt and Whitney's founder Fredrick Rentschler to form an aviation holding company called United Aircraft and Transport (UATC). UATC brought together the Boeing Airplane Company, Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Company and a number of small airlines which together were called United Air Lines. The Boeing and United Airlines partnership continues today as United takes delivery of its first 787 Dreamliner.

It was an honor to work on this aircraft on the delivery flightline. I am part of aviation history now.

Well done Boeing on another significant milestone in aviation history, and congratulations on making your airplanes look so graceful ie the 787 and the new 747-8 intercontinental.
Both airframes capture the majesty of flight and create awe wherever they go.

That first 787 for United deserves a name. I think "William E. Boeing" would fit.

I've flown a lot in the last two years. For the most part I primarily flew on Boeing Aircraft, more specifically the 737-8. I have a feeling that the 787 will become as versatile and as wide spread used as the 737 in its own category. Both Boeing and Airbus should be commended on building the most safe form of transportation on Earth.

There are copper wires embedded within the carbon fiber weave that are used for this purpose. They are fairly large, i'm not sure what the spacing is but there no where near as small in diameter as the individual carbon fibers (of course). maybe spaced out every few inches?

Will the prices be higher for a flight that will use the 787 as opposed to the 757 for example?

Ha. I've seen one last day in O'hare Airport. I work in United as a ramp. Haven't seen the inside tho. :) Pretty cool design, but im just confuse if its bigger (inside) than 767?

I'm glad that United took Continental's tail, but I wish they had also taken Continental's font. Continental Airlines are the ones who had an all Boeing fleet not United. Continental ordered the 787s, Continental would stick with Boeing in the future. United is going with these stupid Airbus planes.

Regardless of who initially placed the order Continental sold out to United so; that's clearly United's bird. Boeing > Airbus

I hope United will go back to their white and teal paint scheme. It's a lot better than adopting Continental's scheme.

Did you know that United is Boeing? Early Boeing company was also a airline and a airplane maker but an American act spilt the two companies

A Fellow ex Continental, now United 777 flight trainer and Pilot. Told me this. The Original United is known as United Legacy. United is all ex Continental. Down in Huston all of our 777 have GE90s unlike United Legacies PWs. The 787 belongs to Ex Continental. United Legacy is all pissy, because they wont have a chance to fly it. Captian Balzer Also trains 777 pilots to fly the 787. There will never be a North American Airlines, as good as Continental!
