Saturday June 10, 2023 is the 60th Anniversary of President Kennedy’s American University speech on world peace.

The JFK Peace Speech Committee sponsored a webinar on this date from 11:30AM to 1PM EDT that will included showing the film of the speech, followed by commentary and discussion with Professor Jeffrey Sachs who will join us from Europe.

If the US word is not worth anything, why should Russia (or China) be interested in drawing a new nuclear arms control treaty with the US ?
If I were Pres Putin or Xi Jinping, I would not care to make any treaties with the US, until there was a regime change in the US.

On what basis did the US place missiles in Romania and Poland? I will answer my own question, because Romania and Poland were desperate for those missiles because they are terrified of Russian aggression. Why were Romanians and Poles, with numerous other countries desperate to join NATO. It is because they knew that being part of NATO was their best guarantee if remaking free and independent countries. Perhaps Sachs may want to give 6 months thought to this.

I like Prof. Sachs arguments, however, listening to Alex Stubb, the former P.M. of Finland, NATO enlargement was never a big issues with Russia, it was Putin's nostalgia for Russia's imperialist past that is behind the issues today, it was that desire that was behind the invasion of Georgia. No simplistic solutions.
