I will take the 3300 anytime. Old school, real truck drivers truck. Shifts gears, listen the engine noise, and do it yourself maintenance and repair.

My 2800ati had the "yellow"dash everything else was the same, loved the 16 speed ZF gearbox and there was an external locker, under the back of the cab, opposite side to the air filter stack IIRC.

The commentary makes you wonder how any of us coped back in the 80's. I know which era truck I would rather be in. The engine and road noise is much better to listen to than the constant bleeping and buzzing you get nowadays, plus you could pull away from a roundabout or junction much more quickly and safely in the right gear instead of waiting for the truck to move when it decides to!

I go back to KDP 987 P 2800 13 speed road ranger, very reliable did 1.5 million miles

Would love to see a new xf shelled in a 3300. Best of both worlds.

Everyone is so tough, saying "old is a men's truck not a toy like new one" "good noise, shifting gears" etc but I guarantee that all of you'd cry for the new one at quarter-way from Wien to Seville. These trucks were great at the time, but don't kid yourselves, compared to the new ones they are only good when you go for a nostalgic joyride.

No warning lights on 3300. Easy to maintain. Like a Rolls Royce after Atkinson.
2800 DKTD was maintenance free. Did what it said on the tin. Down hill after that with all extra junk bolted on.

Lovely bloke Brian, but the 3300 was an incredibly reliable and comfortable lorry, the best of the best and most older drivers would still want one.

Win the lottery.With that crappy daf automatic gearbox haha.I would change my XF for a 3600 anytime.Shitty electronics with crappy emission system, It's like 480 horsepower - 100 with the new euro 6

13 speed roadranger four over four with a split in the high range much sweeter than the nine speed roadranger Eaton twinsplitter also a fabulous gearbox. The trucks now although comfortable are full of idiot aids and completely devoid of character

The driver does not have to be a ' HE', the driver like your driver train can be a ' SHE', so taking the xf truck from today back to 1982 HE or SHE would have thought they won the lottery!! We can not afford to discriminate DAF.
