As an engineer I'm still trying to figure out what exactly is the innovation here? Is it the concrete duct design? Because the turbine itself is probably just a simply Kaplan type for low head, high flow rate application.

I bet it works well, just put some hog wire over the top and make a flow grate and check it daily for smooth operation good job.

Add a fence at the entrance and a roof to not get things in from above i.e. at heavy rainfalls. Should be fine then

how much maintenance is there, what about dead animals floating in the river, and what about large logs hurting the turbine
