Ex Best buy employee here, the paper placeholders are part of a huge security overhaul company wide around 2015-2016. Multiple stores had major theft issues so they changed how they secured everything. Trust me it's just as annoying to the employees but if you cause a large theft from not following policy you lose your job.

Just a heads up for Kaleb and everyone who shops at GameStop - they do price match other big box retailers like Best Buy and Target, so Kaleb you probably could’ve gotten them to price match that Mario Golf to $40. I haven’t tried it with games yet but they definitely price match TCG products, I’ve been doing this with Pokémon cards lately because GameStop has been charging more than everywhere else lately for some reason.
