Just now, in 2022, came across Pride and just had to look her up! A little late to the party, but I'm glad I found Pride and this singer.

I literally sat and cried my eyes out at this it was so moving. Pride it self is a moving film but this was the icing on the cake.

As a Scot I can only say it this way: this is so bonnie. It's lovely - remember this from Pride.

That one dislike was from the ghost of Margaret Tatcher I guess..

I had never heard this before. As soon as she began singing, I began crying. I was so profoundly touched by her powerful faerie voice. To my soul.

My grandfather was born in 1884 in Newtown, Wales. He grew up in Ireland and emigrated to the U.S. at the turn of the century and settled in Pennsylvania, mining coal at the other end of the vein of coal Cliff speaks of so eloquently in Pride. The people in these Welsh villages are essentially no different than those in How Green Was My Valley. What a shame that the pits and the people became one. No one should need to work like that to produce energy, and now the world picture is so grim, with nuclear incidents, mountain top removal coal mining destroying the land and water quality in West Virginia. This film shows so much of what arises in people under pressure, and sometimes you see the diamonds shining in the deepest darkness. Thank you for the story, the music, the courage that inspired it. I too wept, and have shared it with others, thinking also of the Bread and Roses project in California, where human beings live on so little and need beauty too, something to fill and stir the heart and soul. Can we not be kinder to one another, look out for our brothers and sisters? What can we learn here and manifest in our own part of the world? I'm grateful for anything that encourages us to look around us, see how we might serve.

I used to sing this back in the day when I wanted to change the world. I heard some great performances of this beautiful working class anthem (Judy Collin, Pete Seeger, for example), but none better than this. Thank you Bronwen.

So nice to see Bronwen's version of Bread and Roses out and recorded. The "Pride" movie was such a hit & it's refreshing to hear another version of this besides Judy's & Joan's ... I bought the movie so I can watch it when I wish! Thanks for the lovley recording & posting.... it's a "keeper"!

Shame on TVUK!  You, Bronwen Lewis, are the true Voice of the UK--perhaps the entire World. This song, Bread and Roses, and the way you make us feel every word is proof of that. Bless you.
