According to Bill Hader he has virtually no idea what he's going to be saying (he's shown the script right before he goes on) and the writer changes things on the prompts during the segment to give him surprises. Plus he said sometimes Andy Samberg stands next to the prompt cards, folds his arm and just stares and shakes his head at him, so basically there's no way he'd be able to hold it together doing this character haha :')

I've been watching SNL since the Eddie Murphy days, and Bill Hader is easily one of my favorite cast members of all time.
