On your food labels, you’ll see nutrition facts. These aren’t really facts, though—they’re only guesses. Today I want to help you better understand these “nutrition guesses.”

A few definitions you need to know:
• RDAs (recommended dietary allowance):
This is how much of a certain nutrient you need based on your age, sex, or if you’re pregnant or lactating.

• AI (adequate intake):
This is how much of a certain nutrient you need to prevent an obvious deficiency.

• RDIs (recommended daily intake):
A simplified version by the FDA that's an estimate of nutrient needs based on a 2000-calorie diet regardless of age, sex, etc.

• %DV (percent of daily value):
This gives you a percent of a given nutrient as it relates to RDIs.

The problem is that they don’t factor in important variables when it comes to nutrition facts. People need different amounts of certain nutrients depending on their age, sex, activity level, or special conditions.

Other big problems with nutrition facts:
1. Possible conflicts of interest in the source information.

2. The amounts are related to preventing a deficiency and not achieving optimal health.

3. Some recommendations are too high.

Getting plenty of the right nutrients is crucial to supporting a healthy body. So, here’s what you need to do:
1. Eat nutrient-dense foods
2. Consume both animal products and plants
3. Consider the taste and smell of your produce to tell if it's nutrient dense

Using a Brix test is a great way to help you choose nutrient-dense foods. Nutrient-dense foods come from healthy soil. If you have a home garden, you can use a tool called a Microbiometer to do an at-home test on your soil. If you don’t have a farm or garden, I suggest getting your food from trusted farmer’s market vendors.

You bring up an important point about our soils needing fungus and bacteria. A theory I heard years back was that its not our soils that are depleted of nutrients/minerals but rather the use of pesticides that kill off the bacteria and fungus in the soil. And its the bacteria and fungus in the soil that breaks down the nutrients that the plants absorb. But instead of absorbing nutrients, the plants are absorbing poison! (Glyphsate!) which we then consume. Its that slow and small amounts of poison thats contributing to our declining health, which in turn makes the pharma bros billionares. Is it coincidence that these corporations are all connected?

Could it be that the label "hides" information by omission? I'd like to know the list of chemical/pesticides that were used during the production of the "ingredients" on the label for example. Good vid, Dr Berg!

Dr. Berg, you are a super hero in my mind! I've been showing you to my Tibetan wife since 2019. A couple of months ago she sent me one of your videos I hadn't seen as I was taking a break from YouTube. Without me even knowing she had been following you for several months. She also got a huge Tibetan community here in Toronto hooked on your knowledge. They love how you do your research and break it down for everyone to understand!

👉 If you have a medical problem that you're trying to heal you will need MORE nutrients (vs if you are simply looking to MAINTAIN health). You can't use the values from the FDA as a guideline! So spot-on. People wonder why they don't feel better getting the bare minimum, but they don't realize that these ranges make a lot of assumptions and are not accurate for all people. Gold as always, doc! 💰

Two tips: the more ingredients, the worse it is for you. Also the first three ingredients printed on ANY label is 97% of what's inside your about to eat. So the first three listed ingredients are what you about you eat.
If the first three ingredients are sugar, or fake sugars, it's bad 4 you!

I have a veggie garden and a few hens now. It took some serious learning for me to build a coop and pen, and to grow the different veggies, (a never ending learning curve) but I'm so glad I did it. Just doing those things has improved my health and... bonus, I love it. I wish I had taken up farming when I was young enough to do so. 🧑‍🌾

Doc worried about possible type 2 in me, said I was almost certainly prediabetes. I did keto and IF for 2 months. I just tested my A1C and it was 4.3. Thank you so much Dr. Berg.

you're so right about the tomatoes I grow vs the ones in Publix! They smell unlike anything from the grocery store and so good!! They are so sweet and warm from the sun and full of flavor.

I started doing what this dude said and the fat is melting off of me AND my friends. I gotta say I’m a little pissed that this system wants us to be unhealthy considering the time investment we all put in to get educated.

Very true about soil, healthy plants and bugs, I live on 5 acres, my flower meadow which has very poor soil is covered with grasshoppers, My 40x 80 garden which has perfect soil, compost and organic matter has no grasshoppers.
