While dragon taxonomy is widely debated, from an evolutionary standpoint wyverns are more closely related to the great sea serpent and eastern dragon cousins than the well known four legged western dragon. This can be evidenced by their frequent appearance around coastal areas, the most notable historical instance of this being their infestation of isle of Great Britain.

I remember a quest in witcher 3 about this. Its in Skellige i think. A guy puts up a contract about a "dragon", which turns out to be a wyvern.

If you tell him it was in fact a wyvern, he pays you less than promised. But if you DONT tell him, he pays you what you bargained for.

Gotta love how some people randomly decided on a 'correct' classification for dragons based solely on some book or show... Despite dragons exsisting in many forms throughout folklore.. And always feel the need to correct people in every comment section ever.

Lots of people trying to say the wyverns are a type of dragon. I guess all the books I read were wrong. Although, it is a fictional creature and therefore can be whatever it wants to be. Whoever want to tell them otherwise will end up a pile of over-cooked meat and charcoal bones.

YES! I learnt that recently from a draconic expert. DRAGON is a class of animal, like birds or dogs are. WYVERN is a species. Best way to explain it.
