Why It’s Important to Have Good Friendships

At a glance, you may look at friendship and say it’s not necessary for day-to-day life. It’s just “nice to have.” And the truth is... it’s not necessary. We could certainly live, breathe, and survive without friendship, just like we could live without music or art. But even though we can live without these things, would we want to? Can you picture a life without these things? What if friendships aren’t the meaning of life, but instead give meaning to life?

Today, Fr. Mike explains why friendship is not only important, but it’s vital in living our relationship with Christ.

Maybe you could do a follow up to this video re how to encourage or nurture new friendships after being hurt and greatly disappointed by people you thought were your friends. Oftentimes it is easier to be friendly than it is to put in the work of being a good friend and risk the heartache and disappointment again.

Be a gift of love to someone. I really like this. My priest told me just the other day that I need to learn to love while I’m still on earth. I wasn’t sure what he meant. Now, it all makes perfect sense. I really like this.

i love my friends. but many of them are how they are and as soon as they start celebrating sin I get uncomfortable and dont really want to be around them anymore. Sometimes I think about kinda isolating myself from them and just be with my 2 catholic friends. but I also dont really want to loose my other friends.

Father, can you please do a follow-up video talking about what to do when you have difficulty finding like-minded friends? I'm in my 20s and oftentimes people my age just want to do sinful things that I don't agree with. So it makes it very hard to make close friendships with people.

I have a Theotokos image in my room. I often focus on Mary’s delicate fingers clasping the hands of the Christ-child. There are other versions of this image where Christ clasps his little hands around Mary’s neck. I find this helps a lot. Meditating on a God who condescends to come down and press His cheek against ours.
