Great work I just tried this now and it's easier! I'm in melb. I think the American tack strips are easier to take out than our aussie version, so their advice isn't the best!

While this worked good for me, it was a lot of work. I had 3 more tooms to do, so on a suggestion from a friend, I got a plastic pry bar (didn't know these existed) which worked good to get the carpet tack strip somewhat up off the hard wood floor without damaging it. It wasn't strong enough to pry the whole piece up with the nails, but it worked really well to get the wood up just enough without damaging the floor so I could use a steel pry bar with a soft cloth under it to get the wood and nails out. I ended up finding this set at Harbor Freight for like $6.00, but I saw places like AutoZone also had them.

Why not chisel into the nail enough to grab the nail with pliers or pry up?

What I've tried: pry bar and mallet (super effective, a lot faster than this and no damage to wooden floors during removal. Lots of control as I'm working under baseboard heating and haven't had any issues with removal in that aspect)

What I'd like to try: Shingle Shovel. It looks like it is by far the fastest option and has a lot more control than a regular shovel but interested to see if anyone has any comments on if it damages wooden floors?

Man, the next time use a shovel. All you do is wedge it LIGHTLY under the tacking and push it down.
