Great advice! I would add that there are result-oriented and effort-oriented goals, for example "I will reach a level" versus "I will invest a certain amount of time and effort".I found the second more helpful than the first. Also, opportunism complements planning: there are so many "dead" periods which appear in everyday life which can be exploited if you have a resource with you.

One thing about listening is making sure they use an accent that is fairly common in that language. Some people can speak the language perfectly grammar-wise and vocabulary-wise but they do it in a rare or obscure accent that has markedly different pronunciation to the majority of speakers.
