I add multiple words a week to my study routine. The other 5 days i listen to my target language in music, news broadcast, etc. Deep down studying and immersion are two completely different things.
I also do shadowing with language learning. Christmas songs are so fun to listen to in my foreign
languages.

I always learn languages on LingQ, studying each phrase and vocabulary. This video is the same as my way. I relentlessly look for words while reading for fun, Steve!

I agreed, I believe collecting new words is not more important than knowing how to use the words that you already have. Most of my colleagues they're trying to collect new vocabulary as much as they can but the problem is, they don't know how and when to use them.

I tried another technique with language learning. So far it is working. This time i am going to use phrases instead of words. It is fun as well.

consistently learning new words and phrases.... it's a never ending task, I guess we each take it as far as we want it to go individually.

I love looking up the etymology of english words. I think I would have a blast if I could do that for other languages.

I think about 6 year old children and their ability to communicate in their mother tongue. They are not going to book stores. They have the rudimentary vocabulary (2000-2500 words) and more but that strong 2500 core along with an ear for their language tones so they can pick up new words quickly. Essentially having that 80/20 ratio (80% of conversation uses only 20% of a languages words.) By going over the basics and grasping the tones and word order it seems to be a case of just adding new words.

Words are good but surely you need to hear the spoken language too?

Hi Steve, thank you for your new inspirational video! 😊 I hope someday I'll be able to inspire people just like you on my English-teaching channel 😃 I believe it's essential to get as much English input as possible, from different sources 🤔 Let's learn English together :)

Steve. As a reader, would you record a video speaking about reading the same book in different languages?
I've got the Portuguese version of "the fault in our stars' and also bought it both in English and Spanish which I really found helpful 'cause I knew the story and could Acquire vocabulary.
What are your thoughts on this subject ?

I do think that language learning talent exists, but it is of much less importance than is the case for, say, sports for example. Input is what really makes the difference.

Basically, everyone should watch Steven’s video how he learned Swedish over 9 years ago.
