Inflight vibrations caused the separating of propeller in a Cirrus SR-22 in Belgium on November 16, 2022. Pilot was unijured as he used the CAPS system to save himself. Also, November 15, 2022 in Wisconsin, 53 dogs were saved as a Fairchild aircraft had an emergency landing on a golf course.

Wow! Both stories pretty amazing. Glad everyone was ok. As they say every landing you can walk away from is a good landing. I've always felt a little skittish about the Cirrus. I wonder how their accident rates compare with other like aircraft.
Always good news to hear people survive these mishaps. Thanks for sharing.

With the Cirrus...it was mentioned that there was an "inflight vibration". My uncle was on a long flight in a 206 and had one blade of a 3 blade prop feather due to a malfunction. The vibration was serious...he immediately shut the engine off and safely landed in a corn field. A vibration could happen because of it coming loose from the crank flange which doesn't seem likely since, at least on mine, nylocks are used to prevent loosening. If something went wrong with the prop internally and vibrated so hard to shear the studs...seems more possible. As far as landing after the prop separated. That's a 4 blade prop and it's heavy...departure of the prop during flight could possibly send the CG of the plane so far back and outside the rear envelope that the plane wasn't flyable. The parachute in this case may have been the only option.

I am very glad to see that you found the one that I told you about in Wisconsin.

The pilot did the right thing here -- I would classify this as a catastrophic failure, even though the plane looks structurally sound. His prop separated as a result of some type of mechanical failure and severe vibration. The failure was severe enough to cause the separation, and it is likely that his plane suffered structural damage too. Pulling the chute is what saved his life, and possibly his plane. Had he continued to fly, and there was structural damage, the plane can begin to break apart, leaving little chance for survival.

Awesome job!!

Was going to send you information on the golf course incident All I had was a day and a place. Did they just land short or was it a forced landing? I didn't get any information on that.

Wonderful, last time it was a runaway pitch trim now this.

It appears that the entire hub broke off from the crankshaft.

That’s Why the Cirrus Aircraft is the One and it shows of a pilot who walks away

Why do Cirruses have a parachute? Because it's a plane that won't fly.

I am the pilot of the Cirrus. Three observations:

1. I did do a full pre-flight on the aircraft and saw no anomaly

2. Because I was at 10000 feet on a clear day when it happened, I had plenty of time to position the aircraft, taking account of the wind, before deploying the parachute

3. I would have deployed anyway even if within reach of an airport because, although it seemed to handle OK whilst I was gliding, I couldn't predict how the aircraft would behave on landing given the weight and balance change brought about by the loss of the propeller.

I hope this helps clarify things a bit.

PS: The aircraft was written off by insurers who were very professional and settled the claim for the full hull value promptly. I now have a new to me 2017 SR22.

Wonder if he shouted ‘fore’ on the way down? And did he make par?

Why are cirrus so quick to pull the chute. Props off? Just land it.. Minimal to no damage to the frame.

I bet the pilots were like ok we screwed this one up. This is not the airport we were trying to land at. They have some good explaining to do. 🤠

Two airports within a very close distance EBOS open 24hrs a day and EBUL, old Airforce field still in use every W.E. by a flying club. Seems pulling the chute was the easiest solution, but will cost all G.A. pilots more in the long run. Higher insurance rates.

Popping that chute isn't going to be cheap, and he sure banged up and stressed that expensive plane. Far better to have the skills to put it down in one piece...
these chutes are made too be a last resort, not a go-to rip chord.

Those planes don't seem to be very reliable, a lot of them have been having some serious issues lately.
